Why is it okay to criticize Christianity but not Islam?

Some people can keep to themselves with their beliefs, even if they do occasionally share personal ideas with others.

... unless you want me to start ranting about the proper Jedi teachings. Should I join in on that too? Biglaugh

To be fair, the religionists have been at it for 2000+ years whereas the atheists have only responded recently, having got fed up with the constant noise. We're just retaliating, so it's up to the faithful to disarm first. Not going to happen....

Oh there have always been religions and atheists. Religions just have bigger history books. Luckily today we have a more balanced system with a higher resistance to violence. Unfortunately that just makes people yell at each other rather than swing physical weapons.

Oh yeah. The "you started it" thing is kinda immature too. Just stop yelling, dammit!!!1!!

I tell you what, I'll stop yelling when the bishops are out of Westminster and popey stops riding about in his funny car and the minarets are silent and Saudi disband the religious police and Iran stops building nuclear weapons etc etc.

Actually, I'm not sure how many atheists there ever were throughout history. Most of the ones who said anything got executed.

Oh yell at the bishops and popes all you want. Yell at the actual individuals who cause harm all over the world, too. Some of them are complete assholes. Fuck them. Just don't lump the others of their religion in with them.

You know that's never going to happen and especially in the near future. Besides what does Iran's nuclear weapon having anything to do with religion? Mixing religion and politics like you did is the main problem.

You're right, it isn't going to happen, so I'm not going to shut up.

I didn't mix religion and politics! Iran is a theocracy which is building nuclear weapons so it can threaten its neihgbours, including Israel, which is just as religiously driven.

Fair statement. I don't think we're far apart.

So they are building it to threaten and defend themselves from their neighbours but they aren't taking those actions because of religion.

In the US, most people that criticize religion do so about Christianity because it's the most commonly discussed religion here. The Islamic, as well as many other religions, tend to keep to themselves in my experience. Sometimes they protest politically, but I don't often see (as in not a single time) a Muslim man standing on the side of the road with a sign that says "Allah hates fags", even though it is most certainly against their doctrine.

I am a pagan. I am not now or have I ever been a member of an organized religion. I believe that God designed my soul to tell right from wrong. I have happily criticized all religions. They are a great money making racket for their owners. Do you belong to an organized religion?
