Ways to insult Vladimir Putin/ other homophobic people

Do they really like him or are they just afraid of him? It's possible there is some apathy there, voter apathy exists everywhere and I am sure its as prevalent in Russia as it is elsewhere.

I've also been a bit weary of him. Those photos of him posing shirtless on that hunting trip a few years back were just stupid and gross - any statesman who has any self-respect wouldn't pose shirtless in public. It's disgusting and undignified. Imagine if George W. Bush did that - you'd feel nauseous just thinking about it. It was at that point I started to become really cynical about him.

He's worse than the old Soviet leaders in that he goes much further than some of the later ones ever did. Whilst they were prepared to negotiate in order to avoid Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), and did embrace some limited reforms which were very limited but better than nothing, Putin seems unreasonable. He's made gay people a scapegoat to divert attention from some of Russia's other issues.

I am not saying that western leaders are great either. God knows in Britain we have some real posh idiots in charge who know Jack about running things. But Putin is threatening and dangerous, he did invade Georgia and will probably threaten other countries as part of some macho, phallic display of what he thinks is power but is really just bullying and intimidation. At least some of the old Russian leaders (not Stalin of course) knew their boundaries - Putin doesn't

Clinton, Bush, and Obama, could only dream of having such popularity as Putin does. Unfortunately to them we live in a binary country where one half always tends to disagree with the other.

Generally speaking, Russians accept a lot of corruption and abuse that most modern countries wouldn't...and consider themselves stronger and more realistic for it (they see other countries as bad but most citizens too dumbed down to realize it...and they may have a point!). They don't want to "westernize" and thus "lose identity" by embracing gays and feminism.

And I'd say Putin knows his boundaries, that is to say he knows just how far to push before backing down. As for their invasions they'd point to how the US is even worse and more ridiculous while Russia feels more justified in theirs (and I have to admit, if some of the things done to them first, which includes taking hostages in the capital and in schools, were to happen in the US we'd be sending drones in by the scores...).

By the way, one conversation I had with a Russian got a bit confusing because when I mentioned "the Butcher of the Balkans" he thought I meant CLINTON, not Milošević, and he gave me reasons I could understand why (and I later found out Greeks called Clinton that as well, I wonder if it's not an Eastern Orthodox thing...)

Vladimir Putin is democratically elected. He is only doing the work of his constituents. The People of Russia have made a choice to place a taboo on homosexuality and place the LGBT outside their recognition of tolerance.
Hating Putin is pointless. You could hate the Russian culture, but hatred solves nothing as well. I suspect there will always be countries outlawing homosexuality. I doubt all of Africa will ever be free of anti-lgbt legislation, I doubt Russia ever will, and I doubt the Middle East ever will.
Humanity is what it is whether anyone likes it or not.

Anyway, master Chase, yes, he was elected...but the electorate did not count on him turning Russia back into a Soviet-like semi-dictatorship...I mean 12 years in power...:eek:

We should all be a wee bit more worried about THAT than his homophobia..

Anyway, all of Eastern Europe is too ingrained in homophobia, but curiosly enough is not the Slavic populace that came up with it, but the previous geopolitical power: the Byzantine Empire and their church, the Orthodox Christians..which Slavs came to adopt oh so well..they ahd some pretty harsh laws about "sodomites"
