About the shyness - try to find some gay friends, coming out to them will come easier and they will probably be able to help you feel more relaxed and comfortable in your own skin. Exchanging opinions and ideas with people of your own kind is the best way to learn about yourself... Yet again, you could use us for that purpose, right? Smile

Good luck.

I know have to. Apparently the college in which I studied and now work is very populated with young gay men. I have met but 2 in six years. I'm not a very sociable person, hence it's not easy to engage new people and meet more of "my kind". I suppose I'll have to just come out to the one I do know and trust the most. Thanks for the advice!

Zeus Wrote:I was you 20 years ago never had the guts to act on my feelings. Ended up getting married and having kids and am now in my 40s, still in the closet and unhappy about the choices I've made. My advice to you is to be true to yourself now while you're young. Don't set yourself up for a life of regret. Good luck to you.

I know. I definitely do not want that kind of life. I mean I would love to have kids, and there are some women I could be quit happy with. But it would still be a lie, and it wouldn't be fair for anyone involved. I appreciate you shared your experience, and I feel for you. You have my best wishes for you to find your happy ending...or the closest thing.

you live in Valparaíso (Chile), is this an accepting environment?

ish....

For the standards of a Catholic country (the ever present legacy of Spanish colonialism) at least the place I live is a friendly environment. Valparaíso actually has the first transgender "concejal" elected in Chile (don't know the word for "concejal", but you know, people who work with the Major. Councilman? Maybe?) But is still not something you would scream to the four winds. I have seen, tough, in recent years more gay couples openly holding hands, kissing, etc. (Which often makes me sick, not doing it too)

Well, another heavy closet case here and newbie as well.

I can relate to much of your strory. I guess the hardest part would be "being in the middle ground". People can see that you're not interested in girls but you don't have boyfriend either. This remains an issue for me, somehow it makes me difficult to make friends.

Anyway, English is not my first languange either. I come from Indonesia where the society still hold this conservative view of homosexuality. General view of the people here: homosexuality = transgender = sinful = hell.
