Is it still considered flaking when you're broke..?

When you're broke and had to spend the money you had on
school supplies and can't go out with your friend on the weekend, is
that still considered flaking?

It isn't really. I mean as long as that's the true reason you couldn't go out with him and you gave him plenty of notice I wouldn't worry about it. It's a perfectly legitimate reason for not being able to go out. People change plans all the time, I am sure they'll understand. It can't be helped. Good luck with explaining it anyway

I already told him.

And it's the truth, I didn't expect to spend most of the money that I
had for school this past weekend.

I just feel terrible for saying I can't go. He offered to pay, but I just
can't take his money when I already owe him a lot.

Plus, I'm starting to feel that the only reason he wants me to go is
so that he has a ride there..

Don't worry, you're karma's clean Perfectly acceptable reason not to go out.

Y'know, if you'd be driving him in your car, you shouldn't feel too bad about letting him pay for a few things. I mean, fuel isn't free after all.

No, you're right, he offered to pay for the tickets for the
event thing he wanted to go to, but didn't mention the gas
part, so.. And knowing this friend of mine, he probably wouldn't
have offered.

I haven't had to say NO to someone in a long time so that's probably
why I felt bad.

It's funny now, cause as soon as I broke the news to him that I can't
go, he has posted a couple passive aggressive on FB-land about his
weekend plans being a bust.

I really need to distance myself from people like these.
