I love food and to me this is the one best parts of a trip abroad.

The problem is: how to find the right restaurants?

So I propose you post names of cities you've visited (or live in) and recommend us local restaurants that are exceptional (they have to be truly exceptional, very good is not enough!).

Foyer de la Madeleine (Eglise de la Madeleine) I've mentioned this gem several times on GS: Foyer de la Madeleine is a wonderful 'restaurant associatif' where you can have a great meal for 10€ and help the less fortunate. How brilliant is that?! http://foyerdelamadeleine.fr/


Lisbon, Portugal

Cantinho do Bem Estar (Rua do Norte 46) Huge portions, brilliant food but it's really difficult to get a free seat and they take no reservations.


Berlin, Germany

Pasternak (Knaackstraße 22/24) This is absolutely brilliant, a hidden gem of Berlin. Try the Sunday brunch, as well. http://www.restaurant-pasternak.de/

Any recommendations for Spain ?

Being vegan I very rarely if ever eat out in Spain.

there was a great great restaurant, just a little one but it was really memorable, in Hong Kong. It was Taiwanese cuisine, and it was in Tai Koo. It was in cornhill plaza i think.

Kyoto, Japan
Hanbey (半兵ヱ it is a chain around Japan though and in many places.
It's a 昭和 (showa) themed Izakaya (pub/resturant) They play old Japanese music from the showa period. It has such a great atmosphere. And it is pretty cheap too~

The best chongqing cuisine restaurant or takeaway in Auckland is probably Eden Noodles Cafe.
You can't not be appetised by it. Everything is delicious.

Probably because there's so much chilli oil that your sweat starts to taste spicy.

Honestly, I hardly ever eat out at a non-Asian restaurants. I know of a good cafe called Olaf's which is on the corner of Mt Eden and Stokes road in Mt Eden village here in Auckland, but I guess I just don't eat at Western restaurants so much. Maybe because they're more expensive.
(What I actually want to say but I can't because it's wrong and offensive, is white people food all tastes the same and is unexciting unless you pay a fortune for it... then it's good but I don't have that kind of money why do they charge so much does it cost extra because it's for White people like in Hong Kong o.O I'm not trying to be racist, I'm just being racist)

I went to this ridiculous buffet restaurant in Shanghai once. It was like an entire hall filled with different types of food. I got really dizzy and ended up eating lots of haagen dazs ice cream.

it was called like Golden Jaguar or something. It was really ridiculous but surprisingly good.

The japanese restaurants in Shanghai are amazing. The Japanese expat community there is huge.

I can't even begin to describe how wonderful and fantastic this place really is: a former public toilet turned into a burger joint that cooks some of the best burgers you'll ever have.

They even have a healthier vegetarian option - tofu with mango sauce - and it's just as delicious as the meat version.

Like Foyer de la Madeleine in Paris, this place also has a big heart and you'll be helping the less fortunate while you're having a great meal!!
