Obesity as an illness is a problem. What you're thinking of is large body sizes which do not cause health problems. Some people can do that, but most obese people have health issues.
Obesity is a problem, yes.

Of course nobody can force obese people to lose weight, but it IS a problem even if the persons involved accept it and don't want to lose weight. Keep in mind that we're talking obese, however, and it's a big difference between that and being a little out of shape or chubby.
More or less everybody can lose weight, there are no real excuses for not doing it. My 75 year old severely obese, diabetic and wheelchair-ridden grandpa managed to do it just fine.

The problem is anyone doing something that not conducive to living and creates health issues, like smoking and obesity for 2 of the best examples, put pressure on the health care systems weather they are paying for their own treatment or tax payers are paying to house them in public hospitals.
Then there are people who need treatment, have looked after their health and done everything to avoid illness, but can't get a bed in a hospital because a smoker or someone who is obese chooses to abuse their own body?
So yes, self inflicted illness due to irresponsibility is a problem because it burdens our health systems.
(Not all large people are obese...it is possible to be large and be fitter and healthier than a swimmer)

I wouldn't really say a problem. Sumo wrestlers do put weights on to get their body shape right for their fight. If the person is okay with it, it wouldn't be that bad. On the other hand, extreme obesity is just bad for your body. Some fat is not a problem, but if you are really on a bad level, if might be better to get some weight loss since you don't want more weight to cause knees or back problems later in life.

I think it is a problem but i think its also important to calibrate the measurements of what exactly is overweight.

I have to agree with everything that Bowyn Aerrow says. It is a problem. Some time ago I saw reported in the papers the case of a family of five, mother, father and three children, that were all supplied with motorised "wheelchairs" because all of them were so clinically obese and were incapable of walking. And all of this at the cost of the taxpayer. Add to this the cost of the medical care they all required, this would up to thousands and thousands of £ a year. All at the cost of the taxpayer.

Mr Tinkles, I'm non insulin dependant diabetic and my problem is that I can't keep weight on. I use Metformin that fortunately is a very cheap medication, but I am gradually weaning myself off that by using a tablespoon of coconut oil a day that proved very effective from the first time that I started to using it. My gluscose count dropped quite dramatically. This could aslo be attributed to my jogging one hour a day. Exercise is absolutely essential for diabetics.
The only way that I am going to gain weight is by joining a gym (again) and do weight lifting to gain muscle mass.

Obesity is a problem as it means TOO fat, where it is derogitory to your health, being fat is not always a problem, its been shown that your metabolical fitness is most important than body size
