MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - SAME LOVE What Do You Think?

It's not for me, but I guess I'm glad that the song exists, though.

Did you read all of the lyrics....?

Well Firstly. I very much love the message of that song, alittle out of the blue honestly from Macklemore, since he's relatively new artistically speaking, so a bit out there, but I really do love this message and song, it's actually very sweet.

However, and yes I'm gonna be that bitch, I don't think it's particularly a good video for 10 year olds, and here's why, before y'all jump up my uterus;

Now, y'all now I'm quite the gurl and all, and while my life was and is still full of struggle, I do not think this video would've helped me at 10 or whatever, because;

1) I didn't give a fuck at 10, like I just didn't get the concept of boys & girls until puberty or just after, so by you telling me all this stuff, it would just confuse me.

I was already feminine at 10, however to me, that's was just me being who I was and still am, so for someone to tell me "It's okay that you are you know" , is gonna make me question why there would even be a need to say that.

My Sister, who at the time was 8, watched Katy Perry's Firework with me and saw the two boys kissing scene and she asked me are they like me and was just generally confused.

She's okay with me and how I am, she sees no oddity in it, however to see stuff represented in such a strong light is confusing, because now she has to wonder about all the deep stuff, that 8 year olds don't even comprehend. And she's a smart cookie.

2) Lyrically, some of the statements, verses and what not are too advanced for a 10 year old child. The impact I believe was meant for an audience of comprehensible awareness or lack thereof, because children are not aware of such things he says.

Sure, I'm all for the message, the video and all that good stuff, but realistically, at least to me, a 10 year old isn't that emotionally and environmentally aware enough to grasp the intricate message, nor the expressions and words used.

They'll focus on the video and then wonder what's going on, because to them it's just guys and girls kissing and holding hands and stuff.

Like I said, my Sisters and Brothers all don't mind how I am, because to them, I'm just me, living my life, doing my thing, but I don't think if I had to sit down and explain it all, that they would get it, because then they would think something is wrong with me or that I'm not normal or whatever, which is completely untrue.

Perhaps for me, the video just wasn't kid friendly. That's just me, and so sorry if your tubes get tied over it, but really, I don't think I would let my Sister, who is now 11, watch this Video.

She get's what Gay means now, she knows her Big brother is gay, but she doesn't need to know about discrimination, struggles, gay love and all that just yet.

She won't understand it. I am a big advocate for young people and intellect, but on this stance, I don't think emotionally, 10 year olds have the capacity to understand and make decisions based on this type of video.

I mean, hell, do what you want, but I just don't think it's a great video for the empowerment of Gays in the eyes of Youth.

I remember in College, in an effort to bring Gay Awareness, we watched Marsha Amrobosus's song Far Away, which touched a lot of people. Even younger kids get it, atleast here.

Actually Arkansota, you are right, he does attack conservatism, because that was the point.

A Valid point as well, as conservative people are normally the first one's to cast judgement and "throw the first stone" as they say, when it comes to something they do not like.

However everyone is entitled to their opinions, I do not believe he was wrong in his message, despite my previous post (which is in relation to kids watching/listening to it)

In This day and age, Conservatism is seen as the modern form of oppression and sociological slavery, and so in an effort to abolish this modern form of emotive oppression, messages like this must exist in order to allow for equality and free ability to express oneself.

Willy Lynch may have stated at the Gallows that even 400 years after his death, that Slavery would be still implanted in the minds of Whites and Negros, he did not include the Mental & Emotional Slavery and Oppression of all people and clearly did not realize his foresight was unfortunately correct.
