Same-Sex Marriage

I remember Canada being the fifth country to legalize same-sex marriage and i think it was Netherlands that legalized it first. Although i agree that it's ridiculous how some countries can't accept homosexuality yet, some countries are still using the old believe-system. I'm not going to argue about how some scripts in Quran or Bible is ridiculous, but people have their own believes, whether its right or wrong depends on what they learned to be right or wrong. I'm currently living in UAE, where some of the laws are written to the Islamic laws. Sodomy is banned here, and also attempt of sodomy is also banned, and you can also get in jail by going to gay bars. In addition, you can get prosecuted for being gay sometimes. On the other hand, UAE is one of the most nicest and loveliest countries I've been to. People are nice and polite here, and actually help you instead of just nudging you off to somewhere when you need directions. People here are easy to speak to and very sociable. So from my perspective, it takes time, just because it's 21st century, doesn't mean people have to change right away, some things are just too engraved in one's culture to just accept it in one night. Just let this happen at their own pace.

In France, it was a good drama before it was accepted. It was entertaining to see how stupid some people could be.

Well actually its the 21st century... although many people still have a decidedly 20th century attitude
....
While you are sitting there complaining it isn't happening fast enough, I'm sitting here stunned that there is any gay marriage anywhere on earth - and floored by the fact a black man sits as president of These United States - two things that were never supposed to happen in my life time.

A better wording would be: "two things that I didn't expect would ever happen".
Who knows what was supposed and what wasn't supposed to happen?

Well in the way I meant it was that we were told it would never happen. It was a popular 'fact' here in the states back then - well actually both were 'facts'.

I know what you meant, David... I can read between the lines, but I'm sure, if we're honest we'll have a few more surprises in our lifetimes and we'll marvel at them still...

Daniel, if you're mad, and there are still plenty of reasons for being mad, then make sure you translate your irritation into some activism. There are still so many countries where the slightest gay right is just a pipe dream. Maybe someone needs your signature, or for you to organise a petition... Your vote may also put the right people into positions of power, so vote and engage others to vote too, especially if their vote is going to further your cause. If they disagree, find the right words and examples to make them change their minds.
It's a struggle, yes, but you'll find it's worth it.
