Everything is influenced by the past -- but not predetermined. As Wade said, he was likely to become a blue collar worker with a family. There are plenty of stories out there of people beating the odds and creating an unexpected life.

That's not fate, that's basic biology. Fate would be to say you are going to die under the wheels of a bus full of Japanese tourists 2 days after your 53rd birthday, and you are powerless to change that. Stay in bed and the bus will find you.
Everything is predeterminated by the past, but a quasi infinite number of factors...
I'm sure (very) theoretically, we could find algorithms which deduce future state with present state.
Finally, brain is just a complex process unit, you make brains interact, you add extern phenomena and that's all :biggrin:
