Photos of my new apartment!

DrPhibes Wrote:Whats that gadget between the photo of the couch and the glass table? I cant figure out what that is.

It's a kitchen robot from Vorwerk called Thermomix but we call it 'Bimby' around these parts.

It's a bit expensive but I can't praise it enough. You can prepare almost anything with it: juices (the lemonade is to die for!), jams, sweets, burgers, anything!

Spartan - hmm.

I furnished by first place out of dumpsters, including wooden fruit crates, milk crates and a great big over stuffed chair that only had one arm with cigarette burn on it. It was a pretty new piece for the era.

The past 18 years I have been doing flea markets, thrift stores, estate sales which is where I got my antique furniture for very cheap.

I would never hire an interior designer to furnish a place. Way hella expensive, and they would insist on all of this plastic/glass modern crap.

Nice misterlove, clean and bright, should be fun filling it up with all things you like, obviously it looks a bit bare at moment, how about a nice throw for your sofa and big old house plant in that empty corner, that will instantly transform it, as will a couple pictures (that you like) with good frames.

Hi Mr.

Wish I could be minimilistic...
I'm old, so old, that according to my son, I've got cave-man paintings in my armpits

so all my things are old

To top that, I'm a clutter-queen of note!

one day
one day
one day

I envy you

It's very simple, but very clean (now to keep it that way!) and sharp looking. I'm sure it'll fill up over time as you adapt it to your own personal look. I also wanted to mention... Your couch, despite maybe being too big, looks awesome, I love it --- and your bedside lamp is beautiful.

I hope it keeps coming together Smile.

Edit: I kind of want to buy a Philips Airfryer now....

I do wonder why you hired a decorator? Surely you know your own taste or did you not feel comfortable enough? Anyway, as Partis says, it looks a bit bare at the moment. I am all for the minimalist look but it needs to be countered with a bit of humanity. Here's a shot of my living room. I made the two sofas myself.

Photo #1 is the Madras sofa. It's pretty but clearly too big for the living room but the bimbo that I hired as a decorator didn't care because she only wanted to make money.

#2 is the wonderful Thermomix, this will save you A LOT of space in the kitchen.

#3 is another great German invention, the SV1902 from Kärcher (vacum cleaner + steam machine) - I cal it 'The Panzer'.

Instead of a conventional desk, I bought #4 for a mere 120 euros. The bimbo wanted to sell me a huge piece of crap for 370 euros but I wisely told her to f*** off.

#5 is the only thing the bimbo got right: a beautiful bedside table with an integrated lamp.

Madras....one would think they oughta start calling it Chennai couch since 1996 Biglaugh

what does a Thermomix do? I don't know them....

Oh yeah, Germans are all about panzers Biglaugh

I immediately imagined one of these Panzer IVs in your living room..

Anyway, looks good so far...

And I just realized you live in an island..how's that like?

Couch/Sofa - well considering it looks like it can seat two average Americans, or 5 average humans from the rest of the world, it may actually be a great choice for the space.

What you need is a or two chairs that can be sat across from the couch to form a conversation area.

I have no idea what is across from the couch, if its an open wall something to put your 80" LCD HDTV and accompanying electronics will be needed. Flank that with two comfortable but light weight chairs that can be pulled toward the coffee table while entertaining.

Rug. You need them. Yes I know, lovely hard wood floors - but no doubt their is a horrible echo in your place. A few well placed floor rugs will reduce the echo. One would of course go under the coffee table.

Another thing you can do to reduce the echo in the space, is to get a tapestry/ a Persian rug some sort of textile that is large, interesting and can be hung on a wall on display.

In my apartment in S.F. which was all hard wood floors and had a high vaulted ceiling I hung three Afghans (the blankets, not people) on one of the end walls which was triangular at the top. Not only did they fill the upper space, they made the place sound and feel more cozy.

Right now I see nothing in your place that says 'This is Misterlove's place' - Well the mug may count. Got any personal mementos? Maybe start placing those around.
