Didn't even knew electric can openers existed... I just use a ye old metallic blade one....

Can't say I have ever bought gimmicks...I think

Quote:I usually dont buy into the plastic gimmick crap, but these were at the dollar store....I figured, hey, its only a buck.

A buck here, a buck there - those add up rapidly. A penny saved is a penny earned.

I am distrustful of appliances and 'stuff'... If it looks too good to be true chances are high it is.

My mother was a 'gadget queen' - she would impulse buy crap all the time. Those 'As Seen on TV' ads - every time she saw something she would get on the phone. We ended up with stuff like 'in the egg scramblers' - in theory a needle is used to scramble the egg in the shell...

The kitchen was cluttered with crap - half of it didn't do as promised. As such I have been leery of anything sold that doesn't have a long history.

Six bloody AA batteries! lasts 2 weeks. -_-

Never falling for that shit again. Any person who's too lazy to grind pepper by hand shouldn't be cooking.

Oy! you eat a lot of pepper! .Biglaugh

Gimmicks in the kitchen?

Took me 55 years to work out how to use a steel egg ring properly!

My gimmick is a microwave.
Mervyn bought it, that's how old it is.
I've only used it to dry out my washed-too-late socks

Actually melted a pair once...

I have found that electric can openers are a complete waste of money. They are expensive for what they are, and they dont work very long....if at all.

Waste of money. I have been given a couple of electric can openers in past years, and also bought a couple of my own.....they work for about 5 - 10 cans, then they start "slipping". The can slips off the rotor all the time, the motor cant handle more than 10 cans, or the can just "sits" there in one place while the rotors spin.
Useless pieces of CRAP!!

I found an all metal, heavy duty, hand held can opener back in the 1980's, and I have been using it since. Its awesome.
Mine looks just like this, but has tan handles....

I just bought a Swivel Sweeper yesterday at Walgreens.......

I remembered the commercials from long ago,
and this one was an upgraded version
with "improved" everything from the first generation models.

I thought:
"Ok, I really need a new device for hassle-free cleaning my floors,
and don't want to spend too much on one."

Looked it up on my phone
to see it got a 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon,
and gave it a shot.

I highly recommend it for chasing around dog hair on hard floors,
as it blows them around,
and picking up, then spitting out random debris.

It also does a superb job with getting string or long hairs caught up
and tangled within it's bristles.

It's fun to glide around with though,
so that's a plus...
not a $40 plus, but ya....

If you're out and about shopping
and see a well designed box stocked on a random shelf
that has the words "AS SEEN ON TV!" on it,
run the other way asap!

I saw this at JC Penney's, and was shocked by the $400.00 price tag, seeing that pretty much the WHOLE machine is cheap plastic!!!!

Seriously...with the environment noise, you really expected it to really work at 150 meters? :p

If you have a smartphone, there are apps for that. You put a bluetooth receiver on your key rings, and your phone can emit to find your keys. Wink
There are some on the market but if you know a developper, he can design you an app for that.
