Are we shoving our gayness down people's throats?

That's the problem with people that think like you.

This is a discussion where prod submit their thoughts and beliefs, there is no right or wrong hence no argue net can or should ensue unless an antagonist wishes to master ate with his ego and climax the discussion by turning it into or provoking argument.

Unfortunately it is this thinking that ruins the peaceful atmosphere that we try to create and hope that we can have decent discussions and learn from each other.

Emptyclosets would be the perfect forum for you ;-)

They hate it when we're "loud and proud" and "making a big deal of ourselves". They think that if we want equality, we shouldn't be making such a big spectacle of ourselves. Because straight people don't go around talking about how straight they are and how they have straight pride.

Are they correct in saying this? Is wearing our LGBT badges a bad thing? Could this whole website itself be bad? I mean, it is a site for the LGBT to chat, right? How come we aren't just chatting in any regular forum? If we want equality, shouldn't we be doing that instead of putting ourselves in a group? Personally, I feel gay pride is justified because I don't feel like we've reached that level of equality yet. People celebrate their sexuality because they know not everyone will be okay with it, but they don't want what others say get them down. Back when segregation was a thing, did the black community just sit around and do nothing to reach equality? No. They embraced their heritage and continued to fight for their equality and didn't shut up until they reached their goal. I really feel like the LGBT are in a very similar boat. Things are getting better, but we're still not there yet. People don't go around saying how proud they are of their straightness because no one cares. Being straight is expected and I haven't heard any stories about a straight person getting harassed or treated unfairly because they're straight. Just like it'd be pretty difficult to hear someone talk about the trials and tribulations of being a white man back then. When did it become a crime to be proud of who you are? I think people can celebrate who and what they are without being all high and mighty about it and think they're better than everyone else. That's my opinion at least.

Sure they are not...

What really strikes me, is that lots of gays have this speech because they don't accept the fact that they are shown differently in the media, and prefer to be directly in the mass of straight people.
But the thing they don't get : if we (well "we", gay people, not me, personnally I was too young :p ) didn't claim our right/legitimacy before, homosexuality would still be considered as a mental illness...

The young generation have been taught that segregation was something not legitimate, so, fortunately, today it's natural for a huge majority to say that the segregation was something that shouldn't have existed.
Unfortunately, people are easily manipulable, when there's a general hatred in public opinion, people tend to agree with it (I think we obviously can find several examples during the 20th century...) and after they realize it is not normal.

It's what happens in a minor proportion (in most developped countries I mean) with people who say gay rights are not legitimate, it's because they've been taught that it's not normal. Things will change since the new generation seems to accept homosexuality, but obviously, without having claimed, that would have never happened.

Nothing wrong with something being shoved down your throat... as long as you have a good gag reflex.

Heh but all jokes aside. I think alot of people are narrow minded and sometimes too afraid to question their own perspective on things.

If they are judging people for doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with them, if they can't put up with a small amount of exposure to something that they might not be that comfortable with.

Well more throat shoving I say.

Absolutely not.

I compare this to people complaining about how immigrants should assimilate completely and cast off their heritage.

Hell no, if I want to do Chinese things I'm gonna do Chinese things, and if you think I shouldn't then you're kind of a arsehole, and a huge part of the reason why there is ethnic conflict.

And if the LGBT community want to express their identity, in the same way all ethnic minorities, social groups - fandoms, sports people, academics etc. - they should. In fact, I think it's very good that even each individual is able to express him/her own identity.

People who want everyone to be exactly the same and just do 'normal' things and be 'normal' people are boring boring boring and no different to the imperialists who thought their lifestyle was superior and tried to enforce it on other cultures.

On top of that, in what way are we 'shoving it down people's throats?' we're not, we're just putting things out for people who want to see to see it.

And even though I don't really like the idea of pride as a matter of principle, everyone who wants to share themselves with the community should be able to.

Besides, I think there are enough hetero-normative attitudes running through society that, even though we face less direct discrimination and abuse as in the 20th century, still has isolated us as a social minority, just as 'normative' attitudes forced ethnic minorities into an isolation that is ignored.

I'm ok with LGBT people expressing their life but it should never come to shoving it down peoples throats. Its a finite line between being flamboyant and proud and being a wanker to people that don't care.

For me I guess you could say day to day I pretty much seem straight acting. I don't care about my sexuality its part of life, so it rarely comes into discussion. The only time that I would knowingly shove LGBT issues down people throats is if they are openly berating someone for being gay without justification, then its really just a matter of trying to re-educate them.

However like I said before its a very fine line between me shoving it down their throat, and re-educating.

Well, I generally turn at least 3 people gay each day. GAY AGENDA FTW :3
But seriously. I think people should just try to be the best person they can be. Like this also includes the whole human race. Imagine that, if every one had some empathy and could fell how other people felt and just stopped being cunts.
I try to be the best joshular I can be.

if you happened on a sleeping bear in the woods you would just quietly get out the way and he would ignore you - you walk up and kick him the balls he's gonna be pissed ,,,, that's why I don't feel the need to kick straight people in the balls to tell them im gay - just carry on around them and they don't care for the most part and I live my happy gay life...

I was gonna delete this when I read it back cos its shite - but im posting it anyway just for a laugh
