Think chicken pot pies, since that's one of the few that's more common here in the states. I'm not sure where you're getting the eeeewwwww from. They're still awesome pies, making them kick cake's ass that much more for having more than just a fruity dessert option.

I know what pot pies are, I love those. I know those are meat pies.

Savory muffins can be great too, but you're right about meat being a bad idea. Cheese, spices, BACON (the meat exception), nuts, and vegetables are examples of what you could put in savory muffins. These ingredients make for a more salty (savory) flavor, instead of a fruity or sugary muffin.
