3 "tricks" to painting corners and edges........

1. use wide, "light" masking tape to cover the edges/sides you dont want paint on.
Peel it off slowly when done. If its thick paint or starts to peel off the part you painted on the wall, just lightly run a razor blade along the edge of the painted side of the masking tape, then peel off.

2. use a long, thin, very stiff piece of wood or cardboard......sliding it along the edge or corner as you paint. Its easier to do this first, then "paint in" the rest of the wall.

3. get some cheap, sticky shelving paper that peels up easily. Cover the corners, edges of what you dont want painted and then peel it up when dry.

To get "rough" painted edges "smooth" on glass, or to get paint off of glass, use a widget or flat razor to gently scrape it off or "move" it to the side. If you know how to handle a flat razor on a painted surface, you might be able to scrape new paint off of old paint. There are plastic razors you can get for this too, so you dont end up cutting into the wall or scraping too hard.

I try to do as much as I can myself as long as it's not to complicated. I want to teach myself to do more I just have to lay off the video games for a little bit.

Pretty much myself. I learned to do a lot growing up and then even more when renting with a cheap landlord that had all sorts of excuses to not pay repairmen (and when he did he got crap ones), but after I manage to improve it enough myself (a lot of it juryrigged) he then sold it out from beneath me.

I'd say I should've been just another destructive tenant but losing that place turned out to be a blessing in disguise. And I lost it because I refused to let the seller blatantly lie about it while I was there, and I knew what to say because he offered to let me buy it and a friend of mine had a professional inspector come by who appraised it as crap and said it would be impossible to get a loan for it unless one got it "as is" and the buyer would just tear it down if smart, which the landlord said he knew, that's why he'd been renting to me for all these years as he couldn't sell it until I polished over enough blemishes! I'm glad to say the last I checked (over a year after I was evicted) he still couldn't find anyone to buy it which meant he was financially in the crapper while I'm now living in the best home of my life.

No, I'm a complete klutz.
If there's a way to do something wrong, I tend to find it.

I said in my previous post that furniture was more or less my forte and here's another example. It might seem very simple but this bookcase is more complex that at first appears although very few people notice it. I think since I built it only about two people have noticed that it doesn't seem to have any support and hangs, gravity defying, from the wall. Even at close examination they can't work how it's done.

The cabinet below the bookcase I designed but had made cfor me simply because it was too big and heavy for me to tackle. The top is three pieces of solid ash joined together. It's 4cms. thick.
