Does anyone think cities like New York, Paris and London are over-rated?

I haven't been to the cities mentioned in the first post, but I have been to LA, Hollywood, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Yes, they are famous cities. That doesn't mean you are going to get shit out of them just by being there. They do have more opportunities than smaller cities, but that doesn't mean that it's any better living there. They can also get really rough and stressful. I'd go for a short vacation if I had money saved up to check out those opportunities briefly, but there is no way you could get me to stay longer than that. It's not worth it.

Sorry to put a damper on the party but I personally love San Francisco...and New York.

I grew up in San Jose and I lived in San Francisco and have a lot of relatives there...family goes back generations...same in New York.

If focusing on the bad stuff is "your thing"...you can certainly find something bad everywhere you go.

Parisian customer service improves tremendously if you have at least a little competency in French. As a bonus, you can get fantastic food from even the most ordinary looking, hole-in-the-wall restaurants.

If you're well-versed in European history, London and Paris are both meccas of culture. I could go only to the British Museum every day for at least a full week and enjoy it. Yes, both are crowded and congested, but so is every major city in the world.

for each of those over-rated cities, there's always those places off the beaten path and discover something totally unexpected.

It is kind of difficult NOT to focus on the bad stuff, when thats ALL YOU GET FROM PEOPLE THERE!!!!

I mean, COME ON....people taking a shit and piss on the sidewalk and NOBODY does anything? Not even the police???

I was stuck in CA for 4 years, and I only found these kinds of people.......50% of the people there were hateful, corrupt, and trying to steal from you, 45% were trying to literally kill you, 9% were disgusting beggars (coming up in your face and DEMANDING money), and 1% were actual human beings. Funny though...out of all this, this is where I found my good friend Christina. Whats the saying? Even out of a pile of manure, a flower must grow?

Carmel was absolutely gorgeous though. Its famous, even though its not a big city.

I could be on here for days writing what I saw and had to deal with on a daily basis, living in CA. So glad I got out of there. Although, if I had known about this site back then, Im sure I would have had a better time with NerdyGiant and Wade as neighbors.

At least people notice Tinks.

Cities are not my thing I find the pace and the clutter of cities too overwhelming because I actually enjoy space, peace and quiet.

I have lived in one of the more populated cities in the world, Osaka Japan, so I am basing my experience on that and living in Sydney.

I now live in a regional area where the pace isn't as hectic and most people are laid back and actually enjoy the smaller things in life that I think get over looked in Cities.

Oh, hun.........subhuman would have been a "stretch" for these people!!!!!

Now I did not say there WERE NOT any nice hoomins in CA, Im just saying what I saw, is pretty all I saw, on a daily basis. Im really shocked and surprised that CA has not ended up like Kiev.

What can I say?

You say 99% of Californians are hateful, corrupt, thieves who want to kill you and beg for money....

Mighty broad brush you have there...but go ahead and paint your picture. It speaks volumes.
