Partis is right.

We have excellent counselling services available to us. Its just that no one voluntary chooses to use them, until its almost too late.

Personally I have to avoid the threads where people are dealing with their sexuality or are suicidal because it just makes me sad and I do not have advice for them...I know my strengths and weaknesses well.

What bothers me is when someone asks for advice and then completely disregards the fact that a lot of strangers from around the planet took time out of their day to give you some counseling. I think I asked for advice one time ever on any internet board and it was on this board and I was very grateful for everyone who took the time out of their day to give it to me....it helped me then and many years later it has still helped me to this day the advice people here gave me ...

Having said that...This should be quoted and be a sticky on the top of the advice forum

Gayspeak is not a network of professional people that can diagnose mental illness or social anxiety disorders and treat your problems as if we are professional. That is an extremely dangerous expectation and a line that should not be crossed. You will get he wrong advice and the people who are trying to help you will be devastated for giving the wrong advice and could do something to themselves after being pushed beyond their breaking point with the knowledge they have hurt someone they are trying to help.

The person you're quoting is a degreed Psychologist and a working counselor.

If you can't take the word of a professional that's your choice.

Not everyone has access to it, for sure. There's one example right here on GS and Mr. Tinkles already mentioned such person. Seeming how my word will mean little to you, there's a reference you will respect.

Most importantly, not everyone will admit to it's problems in real life. That is genuine fear, dfiant, not lazyness.

That said, I agree with the overall notion of (albeit not so gently) advice people with serious issues to pursue proffesional help. Certainly we can't give any proffesional useful help for really serious cases

That doesn't mean GS can't be a safe place to vent and to get some input when needed.

This attitude of "GTFO of GS otherwise", that you and some others are taking is a bit extreme.

I have made a real mess of things myself. I apologise for what ever good it does and I attempt to make up for this by helping others when and if I can.

I enjoy being misquoted and misinterpretted for ones own selfish desires.

please, show me where I said GTFO. Please show me the implication. Please show me anything that say people are not welcome here to seek support for their problems.

Please also understand that you may be a professional, the rest of us are not and there are people who are trying to help and they are being lent on far too much and they are falling into the same trap that the people they are trying to help are already in.

You may justify calling laziness fear so those that don't want to take the first step can jusify over loading people and feel better about themselves, but I won't when I watch a perfectly healthy person get run down over the period of a few weeks because he desperately wants to help even though what he needs to do is FAR beyond his capacity and he doesn't recognise it.

If you had any conscience or thread of human decency or professional ethics, you would see the problem that this presents. There is too much self diagnosis, there is too much depended on 'friends' for help that needs to be sought professionally, and there is far too much attention seeking behaviour that is making some very loyal Gayspeakers feel unwelcome, uncomfortable, and not wanting to be part of what used to be an awesome community with people who supported and carried each other.

I really don't care if you or anyone else wants to continue demonising me for saying what a lot of people are thinking and seeing because I don't need to make you or anyone else like me.

I know what I have done, I know what I have achieved especially by being part of this community, and I am strong enough to know that is enough, what I do and what I continue to do will ALWAYS be enough.

Have a nice day Wink

Oh, not you dfiant. Joshular typed those words: "GTFO of GS" in your bye bye thread. Those words match your attitude very well, though..

You insulting some folks on that thread and this is no missinterpretation, but a reality. That you think we should put up with your constant bashing cause of your elder age? longevity on the site? is also no missinterpretation but a reality.

Have a nice day yourself, kind sir.
