Me, The Camera and Nudity
#1
This isn't as much a confession as an admittance. Forty years ago when I was 30 I was asked if it would amuse me to participate in the making of some pornographic films. In terms of polarities, this was the opposite pole from my everyday activity, being a Physicist so, of course, I accepted. They were commissioned by a gentleman in France whose name you would recognize and so it won't be mentioned; This is my confession, not his.

Wardrobe was no problem, there wasn't any and my partner and I knew each other well. The set was beautifully constructed and lit. The photographer, Richard Avedon, knew his angles cold and so it looked terrific. But...given his tendency to focus on colour and its depth and beauty, our beauty and the depth we were trying for got somewhat lost in the camera angles. Indeed when Jean-Luc and I watched ourselves, what we knew we'd done wasn't that apparent on the screen. Altogether it was a fascinating experience and one that I remember....but there's one bit more....

When I returned to Los Angeles, word of my French exploits had somehow percolated across the Atlantic and I was asked to "drop by" that Everest of early male porn, AMG-American Model Guild. Keep in mind no one had seen my performance (As indicated, I wasn't sure I had) but I was good looking, very tall and was offered my selection of whoever was in their stable to make my American debut. Flattered, I did see if there was anyone with the saddle on but....somehow I had a feeling this might have repercussions, even if done VERY Tastefully with everything implied and we all wore posing straps. I did allow them to photograph me from the waist up and some head shots but....that's as far as it went. However, I was surprised to be lecturing one day and a very familiar face asked a question. My stars and garters! It was Rock Hard nee Bill Somers taking Physics 702 from his-almost-stable mate. You will imagine his surprise when I asked him to stay after class for some "counseling" And of course I told him why and where he'd met me and we both laughed. Eventually I secured a fine position for him (Not that kind of position, really, the minds some people have) with DOW chemical.

Still, to this day I'm a bit regretful that I didn't pursue it at least a bit. Just thinking up a Nom de Theatre would have been interesting. I'm open to suggestions...but at my antique age-I'm 70 not 80-I feel the calls for my service would be....limited. And if you've a name in mind....confess it.

He's certainly famous for his work in black and white but his fashion photography was largely in colour. Look at the film, "Funny Face" with Hepburn and Astaire. It oozes coloiur, his ability to find depth of shadows and lights over layed with colour are amazing. It was the era of Eurotrash and we had very long hair, and, of course, this was before manscaping was in vogue so we were naturally furry. Our cocks (bites in French) were made up as were our faces. The stills from it are magnificent and several of them were used in print media for various products. As I said, if standards and cleanliness had been at the same level here as in France I might well have made a few more films. I always had an idea of doing one nude and on horseback or involving horses-as props, not actors- and the title?
Why "Mount Up". What else could it be?
