a old german folk song, sung in Low German, from Lale Andersen
she was the singer of Lilli Marlene the most famous song by Lale Andersen is probably Lilli Marlen ... what most people do not know is, that - for singing of this song - she came almost to a concentration camp ... for undermining military strength ... only the popularity of the song has saved her. She just got banned from singing and got house arrest .... After the takeover of Hamburg by the English army in 1945 she got a new dress, food, and was asked to sing the song in front of the British General Staff .... She died on 29 August 1972 in Vienna
