Job Satisfaction vs Big Income
#11
If it's a comfortable amount of money, then go for the job satisfaction one.

Think about it: you'll be there pretty much everyday 9-5, I presume, for a LONG time. You don't want to dread going there every single day... it'll be hell.

Thank you everyone for your input. I truly appreciate each one of you. You have given me a new insight on this matter.

One thing that I really have to consider is that I still have at least two surgeries to go. My surgeries require quite amount of money. I already spent thousands and I expect to spend more. Hence why I have to think thoroughly before accepting a job.

I do however understand that I need a job that can satisfy my passion and can help me to grow as a designer.

I will think thoroughly and find a middle ground.

Thank you again to everyone.

dfiant hits the nail on the head. I urge you to read his answer again.

For me, it is important not to bring my work home with me ie minimal stress and that I enjoy doing what I am doing. Money is no good if the job is very stressful as it impacts on your personal life and health.

If money is your sole master there is always prostitution Wink

It's not contest - follow your heart. Job satisfaction always takes priority. I work with a bunch of people who work literally all day - they even send emails at 9-10pm in some cases! They do not seem to have much of a social life or even a life at all....

I feel like I am the odd one out because that's not for me. I don't understand why people feel they have to work themselves to death to advance their career or gain more money. You wouldn't be happy with that kind of life - just stressed and overworked. It isn't worth it. Far better to be poorer but happier if you ask me. Long hours, stress, and no life just aren't worth it.

I actually had a couple of professors in college that left six figure jobs because of high stress and chose to follow their passion for teaching. All the jobs I had before my currnet were high stress and I hated every second of it, I am making more with the current job though Wink

I just got back from the job interview with the advertising firm.

It went very well.

My interview was conducted by the founder of the company. A French guy. He admits that he can't offer me a high salary because the company is still growing. But he's willing to invest a lot in me by sending me to classes, workshop and sorts as he thinks I can be an asset to his company.

I also just discovered the company was awarded with The Most Democratic Workplaces in 2013.

I'm leaning over to the advertising company now. But I still have to think thoroughly.

Thank you again to everyone for your input.

you will make the right choice Jay...you have a knack at doing that.

The advertising job does sound like a much better opportunity for you though.

Thanks Daz.

I received a call from him few hours ago.

He's happy to offer me a position in his advertising firm.

But the catch is my starting salary will be the same amount as my previous job. My salary will be increased $200 after the first three months. It will be increased gradually after 6 months.

I can start work on next Monday; if I agree with his package.

He keeps repeating the same thing again and again during phone call. "Do not change. You just be you. That what makes you different."

I was touched by the encouragement. I wasn't expecting it.

I discussed the package with my former boss and colleagues. They asked me to reject the package and discuss a better package with him. But they support my decision 100%. Same goes with my family.

Now to decide whether I want to work in a bank or an advertising firm. I'm leaning to the latter. But I will try to discuss and get a better package.

Had to make a very hard decision today. My head almost exploded.

I chose the advertising firm.

I declined the bank.

I'll explain later. I have to rush to my friend's office now (Work temporarily in his office).
