Elephants share a common ancestor with the now-extinct mammoths; they didn't evolve from them.

No idea how accurate those two "trees" are, but those were what I could find from quick googling.

Lol There haven't been any Nessie sightings or reports for years, and the locals are worried about the impact on their dwindling tourist economy (there was a news report on it a few weeks ago). If there ever was a creature of unknown species there, it's certainly not there now after all this time, and speculation of a surviving dinosaur is absolutely absurd. Hundreds of years of searching and multiple scientific research projects haven't turned up a single piece of evidence. What we have are anecdotes and a few ambiguous photos that are completely open to interpretation. Given that the local community has an interest in propagating the legend, I don't think their claimed sightings or stories have any merit whatsoever. It's a fun legend, though. When I was a kid I was fascinated by Nessie, as well as Bigfoot.

Yep. Actually, you can take any two species on Earth and find a single common ancestor. For example, if you take a Pelican and an earthworm, you can actually trace back in the phylogenetic tree and find the single common ancestor they share. You can do it for any species; humans and bananas, dogs and fish, zebras and mushrooms, etc. What's so amazing about it is that it shows definitively how we are all connected on this planet.
