I've just come back from Bordeaux and whilst I loved my trip to France I can't say I was as fond of the flying.
Airports are generally crowded, unpleasant places and I can't say I much enjoyed having to go through all the damn security checks and having to pay an additional £30 each way for my extra bag. And then there're the actual conditions on the plane itself which aren't great. It was worse going from Bordeaux Mérignac to London Gatwick as I waited in a queue to deposit my bag and found I had to go to another desk to try and arrange payment... and then I had to rejoin the first long queue and queue up again just to get my bag checked in!!! At Gatwick going out I was able to just pay at the same desk and the bag was checked in immediately but it took longer on the French side for some reason.
nevertheless it was still the same crummy process both sides. In general I don't really like flying even if it is the quickest and (sadly - though it shouldn't be) the most economical mode of transport. Paying £30 just for a bag, going through security checks and getting sun cream confiscated as it was over the limit for liquids is not my idea of fun. Yeah I probably should've prepared better but at the same time the red tape just wears me down. I think next time I am just taking the Eurostar and possibly the ferry!
