There was an item on BBC TV this morning about a young girl on holiday in Malaysia who died after drinking "Mansion House" gin. It was not gin at all but a deadly bootleg concoction that contained an incredibly high percentage of ethylene glycol, the principal ingredient of anti-freeze.
Apparently this is a common practise in Malaysia and it is not only "gin" that is sold. The Malaysian police are cracking down on this practise but it is well to bear in mind if you are travelling to Malaysia, that distilled spirits are not what they might seem to be.
Ethylene glycol is deadly! It can affect they eyes and eventually leads to death. Please pass this information on to anyone you know who might be travelling to Malysia.
