Any good gay anime?

can anyone give some good suggestions on a gay anime that isnt solely porn? haha Ive looked up some suggestions others have made online but they all are 99% sex, just looking for something with a good storyline where sex isnt 99% of the show. ^_^

What you ask for is pretty challenging, because most gay-themed anime fall into the typical traps of over-sexualization, homosexual stereotypes, fanservice etc. I can only think of two exceptions:

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena

This show can be kind of hard to swallow. It has an extremely thin storyline, with the exception of its final arc and relies more on characterization. This show is strange, filled to the brim with artsy visual motifs that are amazing or pretentious depending on the viewer and usually confusing to first-timers. It was also made in the 90's and a lot of anime fans aren't too cool with that.

If you're fine with the above, the show deals with many forms of sexuality and a lot of the characters seem to lean towards being bisexual or possibly just undefined. This is my favourite anime of all time, and its depictions of homosexual love interests is only one of the reasons.

2. Wandering Son

This one mainly deals with transsexuality, but I remember there being at least one gay character coming to terms with his emotions. This one is really, really slow, but I remember it as being very touching as well.

I Guess having a gay character as the main person (like a gay naruto) is simply too difficult to do and with a smaller targeted audience it would not be as popular :*(. Thanks for the posts guys ^_^

There's Descendants of Darkness if you like Horror/action type of stuff, but I only saw one story arc of it a long time ago, but I thought it was good.

Hmm I can think of some animes which hint at or imply a character is gay but to be honest a decent anime with a deep gay storyline is rare. There are a lot of French, German, and Scandinavian gay films with proper plotlines (and a few British ones but to be honest I think we're lagging in this area), but Japan just doesn't seem to make that much gay anime from what I can see (that isn't sex oriented).

Alot of it isn't actually porn. Actually I can only think of two explicit yaoi anime.

Alot of it it just a gay romance (That said, most Yaoi is written by women for a female audience, so it's not the most realistic portrayal of gay men...) There may be a sex scene but no naughty bits are shown.

I read the manga many years ago, but only watched few episodes of the anime, cause meh.

Also, Neon Genesis Evangelion has a very little part of 'LGBT' because of Shinji (and Kaworu... In the manga there's at least a stolen kiss)... And maybe Kaji in 'The Rebuilt' ... (I still have to watch the Rebuilt...)
There are many manga/anime with a bit of bromance, and sometimes the original intent of the Author was to create a gay couple, but in the end this is not happening for commercial reasons...
