I used to work in the industry of gay porn... as a performer and later as a scout. In my day a twink was a pretty white boy aged between 20 & 25 with a quasi asymetric body... not too skinny and not too fat. What they describe as twink today looks more like a famished skinny dude with child-like features - You guys ever seen that so-called twink Roxy Red from 8teenboy or worse Jesse Star from the same studio, those are really disturbing because both of them looked like they were 13 years old. I used to be categorized as a black twink, because I was thin but yet muscular, I was not fit to be a Jock and not effeminate enough to be a twink... but that's how they categorized me.
And yes stereotype... when I was performing I always had the top role... not that I wanted it because I'm totally versatile and my tiny ass can take a good pounding too, but hey we all know that Black gays aren't bottom right? And because I'm mixed with Latino but my skin was darker than a latino I passed for the big dicked black dude toping twinkish white dude.
That's what you's see on camera, during rehearsal or model meeting I was taking it up the ass... but that wasn't for show.
Yes the porn industry is fake and bias. Just take a look and you'll find out that in many productions, not only the twink is bottom, but you'll also notice that 60% if not 70% of the time, the one getting fucked is often the one with light to blond hair. That's another stereotype.

Personally, I think it's just hetero-normative thinking: people looking for parallels between "heterosexual couple generalizations" and us. But these generalizations aren't even true in hetersexual couples --lots of times in hetero couples the woman is bigger or the guy prefers she's the more domineering in the relationship.
Left to their own devices, it never ceases to amaze me the diversity roles of individuals within relationships. The longer I live, the less any generalization seems to be true.

I mean, totally not right to stereotype because of that, but that's how its always seemed to me that is the reason behind the assumptions.
