Going to visit my hometown/family in a few days. I always feel kind of awkward and reserved or restrained around my family. It's not even because we're arguing all the time or whatever. Quite the opposite: I barely share anything personal with them. And that makes me wonder because it's not that they're cold and judgmental people (well, my dad is a borderline case there..), I just simply don't communicate, and they don't really do that either. I haven't even told them about my sexuality, not because I'm afraid they would judge me, but because it would be just too damn awkward.

If you think this is a problem, you can do something about it. If you are actually ok with how things are, proceed as ever.
It could be that your folks know that you are gay, but wait for you to bring it up when you are ready. And in the meantime they don't know what to talk about with you. So coming out could actually bring you closer again, just because you don't have to carefully filter what you tell them. So you could be yourself with them, instead of being "
awkward and reserved or restrained"
