Okay, am I the only one that does not understand the red carpet at an awards show and the fascination with what people are wearing?

I just consider it an adult version of playing "dress up". Where women can go find the biggest, bestest, wow-iest dress they can and show it off in front of a ton of people. It's not really a competition, per se, although we're nudging it in that direction - first with the "hot and not" thing, and then the "who wore it better". But we just don't really have any type of thing where people can dress up and then show off for people anymore. The closest thing I can think of would be Halloween. Where people try to come up with great and clever and innovative costumes. And sometimes they blow you away, and something they completely fall on their face.

I'm totally not a fashion guy at all, and I never watch these sorts of things. Partially because it's only the women that take part. The guys wear tuxes - full stop. And there doesn't seem to be any set rule about that - that's just the way it IS. If I ever end up doing a red carpet-type event, I'm totally playing dress up. I'll blow a ton of money and dress up like Captain Harlock. The line between "red carpet event" and "cosplay event" is a lot thinner than one might assume.

I saw something in a second-hand shop today. I asked the owner about it, and he said he'd just let me have it. (I've bought a lot of stuff from him.) I have a fun idea what to do with it, and contacted a friend to see if he'd be down to work with it. He's as excited as I am. Totally stoked now.
