What's on Your Mind
Getting home from work was pretty dicey today, luckily the bus driver had no qualms about driving through flood water. Had a serious amount of rain today, more than soggy Britain normally receives on a typical Winter afternoon anyway!

Glad you got home safely Cridders. Flood water on roads can be a real hazard.

Years ago I was hiking and a hurricane moved in. I decided to cut the hike short and took the quick way out to my car. The rain on the way home was incredibly heavy and I remember thinking as I drove along one particular stretch of road that things were getting bad. The next day the newspaper showed a picture of the stretch where I have been thinking about the bad rain. The road was 3/4 GONE, leaving a gap that would have been more than enough to have dumped my car upside down and underwater and mud. Still freaks me out.

Blimey, I'm not surprised LJay! If timings had been different... it doesn't bear thinking about! Do you remember the hurricanes name, or what year this was? Tropical cyclones ie Hurricanes, Typhoons etc etc are a real big interest of mine. Scary things when they hit land instead of remaining out to sea Sad.

Don't remember the name of the hurricane but it was certainly a strange thing to see that picture in the paper.

The year, then, what was the year?

Somewhere in the early 80's as I recall, Insert. Right now, I would rather concentrate on the bourbon.

Ok, then Crids will have to look for major 80s hurricanes.

I don't feel as tired as other times I've gone on leave. Wonder why that is...I mean I'm still tired, but other years it's been me getting on the bus and drooling on the window all the way to the train station...and then on the train...again.

Could be a few in that time that made landfall in Virginia (assuming this is where LJay was living at the time). Tropical Storm Bret (1981) this one was just below hurricane intensity at landfall. Tropical Storm Dean (1983), again, just below hurricane intensity. Tropical Storm Diana (1984) was formerly a hurricane but weakened to a tropical storm as it made landfall further south before moving through Virginia. And then the biggest one was Hurricane Gloria of 1985, that moved through Virginia as a category 2 hurricane, having peaked at category 4 over water.

Virginia actually got hit pretty hard by several systems in the early to mid 80's, before then getting a break for a few years. NTAC anyway haha Smile. Hope your head is not too foggy this morning LJay Smile
