Nothing personal against my state, it actually meets criteria 2 and 3, but I need to move far, far, faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar way from my crazy family and everyone around me who judges me because of my family.

So how far away, realistically, do you have to be so that your family is not so likely to come banging on your door?

I'd say a plane ride away. Anyplace far enough that it'd take more than a day to travel by car. The price and time of a plane ticket or a motel or two should be a good enough buffer. I'd like to move to Melbourne Australia but there's the obvious issue of getting a visa. I'd like to maybe move to the US Virgin Islands, it meets criteria 1,3,and 4 (I don't know much about 2), but the only problem is I think after the novelty wears off, I'd get bored there. The west coast would be a nice change. Maybe the coastal part of the northwest, but then there's the problem with that dormant super volcano, but hey whatever happens happens

So that pretty much means like 900 miles roughly...I'd venture to say most will not drive 900 miles in one day unless they're really desperate and it's not like being out in the plains where there's nothing around.

If it were me, the pacific northwest sounds more appealing than say California. Not sure about the job situation. I wouldn't dare move to Florida and the Midwest kind of sucks...

Well my dumb ass created a network loop at home because I created a bridge to the same network... So my internet is down because of such. Normally yes, a router can stop it but apparently when it is a virtual adapter not so... edit: I guess the process finally died or something because now it is up...

@Chase What about Alaska?
All those forests and mountains and wildernesses. That would be bliss, despite the cold winters.

Northern California sounds good too, near those Redwood forests. There used to be a writers colony near there back in the day, next to Muir Woods. It was a haven for alternative thinkers.

Lol I was actually planning on doing the same thing for the same reasons. My friend I came out to just moved to another state and we keep talking about me moving up there too, I've even filled out applications for a couple jobs there. The only problem I have is there are some positions at a company here that I applied to and I've been trying to get this job for a while now so it would be hard to walk away from that.

What state do you live in and what sort of work do you do?  It is difficult to make suggestions without this information. Elefant

I live in southeastern VA at the moment working at a warehouse but I hate it and trying to find another job. I do have a technical degree so I'm hoping to find a job with that. My friend is in Ohio so I was thinking the Cleveland area.

Wish my headache would go away. Sleepless nights the last week or so.

Oy! I can see your problem more clearly now. I used to run a warehouse--though a small one--and you DEFINITELY do not have that sort of mind. You might do well to go through the book What Color Is Your Parachute? to get some focus and then look for specific jobs. It is interesting that you have tech background and experience but a creative mindset.

Cleveland is a very poor job market due to much economic depression. You might find something if you knew exactly where to look but good luck.

As for getting away from the family, that can be hard. My sister even built a house without enough room for guests but it didn't keep them away. You might be able to hide in NOVA but it is very expensive.

Keep stretching your mind. It's good medicine.
