Maya Angelou dies at 68
#1
Maya Angelou, writer, poet, actress, singer, educator, lecturer, activist, one of the most influential black people of the century. There is a great deal of information to be found out about her on the Internet. Here's just one clip from YouTube:

I read about this today on FB (btw she was 86) and feel terribly sad, as she has written well and beautifully, powerfully and compassionately. *grieving*

Thanks for the correction, that was a typo.

Do not grieve. Celebrate the life that was and the legacy that she has left. I'm sure that she would have appreciated this poem by Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Very sad. I read her books in uni, and watched her recite her new poem at the Clinton inauguration. An inspiring lady with a great literary talent.

Treasure that lives on beyond the grave...

She was a professor at Wake Forest University where I am from. Here's an interesting piece she did that is a little out of the ordinary. RIP Ms. Angelou. Luvlove

She could be very campy and she sometimes scared the living shit out of her students putting them on the spot with demands for emotional expression just to remain in the class, always to bring out the best but often misinterpreted by the immature or naive. She could be intimidating I suppose. I've been told she made potato soup from scratch every time Oprah came to visit. A very eclectic and interesting old soul indeed... Wavey
