Any superhero comic book fans on here?

CellarDweller Wrote:Oh, The New Teen Titans.

A lot of people don't know that there was a "TNTT" cartoon planned to start, just after The Super Friends ended, it was supposed to be based in the same universe.

"The Protector" was a character created for a "NTT" anti-drug PSA that featured the Teen Titans.

There isn't a full version of the video with audio on YouTube, but here are some "splices" of the PSA, with no audio.

Interesting! I wonder why Robin wasn't included? Copy write issues with the Batman Franchise?

I can't be 100% sure, but I noticed they said the shows were in the "same universe". This TV universe didn't have a "Justice League", just "Super Friends". In DC, Robin wasn't in the Justice League, just Teen Titans.

I assume that since Robin was already on Super Friends, they wouldn't want, or didn't want, a repeat character on Teen Titans, especially if the shows were going to run 'back-to-back'.

AH !!! Ok. Well that makes sense. Kinda? I was under the impression when Superfriends was running (and I could be wrong), Cyborg, Raven, and Changeling didn't exist yet? Was SuperFriends still running in the 80's when New Teen Titans started?

Yes it was. Super Friends was a long-running cartoon, but has a convoluted history. LOL

It premiered in 1973 as The Super Friends, and was cancelled. The replacement did worse in the ratings, so it came back in 1974, and was cancelled again. The replacement (once again) did worse in the ratings so it came back in 1975, and this time was a ratings hit.

In 1977 the show came back under the title "The All New Super Friends Hour".

1978 the show was back as "Challenge of The Super Friends".

1979 the show was back as "The World's Greatest Super Friends"

1980-83 the show was back as "Super Friends"

1984 it became "Super Friends: Legendary Super Powers Show"

1985 (last season) The show was "Super Powers Team - Galactic Guardians".

Interesting side note: See the pic below.....

The Galactic Guardians line-up includes Cyborg. I assume that by this point, the Teen Titans cartoon was scrapped, and they had Cyborg join the team.

Ok. Well, I'm old. I remember the original SuperFriends from the 70's, and I remember the Super Powers one - Mostly because I have several action figures from that era. The between stuff is hazy/vague, but I more than likely watched them if they played in this area. I remember (now) there being a Cyborg figure, but I didn't pick him up. Wasn't ever really a big fan of Cyborg until YEARS and YEARS of reading Titans... and I still probably wouldn't buy his action figure.

LOL I know nothing (Jon Snow) but your avatar is cute.

DC comics are the first American comics that I ever read. Suicide squad and The young All-Stars are first titles I read at the tender age of 13.

The British comics industry is really only aimed at children, unlike the American comics with its rich diversity.

Ah yeah, the "Lost" episodes.

They were part of the 1980-1983 years, episodes that were made and then didn't air as planned. They did (however) get aired when the show was put into syndication.

Interesting side note: In prior seasons, The Wonder Twins were only paired up with Batman & Robin or Wonder Woman. This season found them teaming up with other Justice Leaguers. In "Roller Coaster" they're paired with Atom. In "Two Gleeks" they're paired with Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. In "Unexpected Treasure" they're paired with Hawkman & Hawkgirl. In "Space Racers" they're paired with Wonder Woman & Flash.
