Music Questions

What is the single best concert you have ever been to?

I can't say. I grew up in a low-income family, and going to concerts wasn't first on our list of priorities. The only concert I've been to was seeing the Saturdays in 2009 at £20 a ticket. They were pretty good.

If you could only listen to 10 artists for the rest of your life....who would they be? (toughie)
1. Cher
2. Dinah Washington
3. Madonna
4. Bjork
5. Paradise Oskar
6. Utada Hikaru
7. Queen
8. t.A.T.u
9. Dana International
10. Balkan Beat Box

Best album...ever?
This is impossible for me....It's so hard to pick one. Argh!!!!
I love Matangi by M.I.A at the moment...That's my current favourite.

Five songs or artists that make you want to tear you hair out?
Tear my hair out is too strong a phase but I don't like whiney vocalists and screaming. 5 I don't like the sound of include:
1. Panic! At the Disco
2. My Chemical Romance
3. Enter Shikari
4. Cheryl Cole
5. Hawthorne Heights

marshlander Wrote:Best concert ... impossible. Do festivals count? If so, then probably the 1970 Isle of Wight. Otherwise I can't make up my mind between
The Monkees, Lulu (Wembley, London 1967)
Tyrannosaurus Rex, David Bowie, Roy Harper, Steffan Grossman (Royal Festival Hall, London 1968)
Rolling Stones, Family, Battered Ornaments, King Crimson, Roy Harper , Third Ear Band, Alexis Korner's New Church, Screw (Hyde Park, London 1969)
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (QEH, London, a couple of years ago)
Arthur Brown's 60th birthday party (Astoria, London)
Any one of the dozens of times I have seen Sparks play live.

Only ten artists? Again, impossible
Richard Thompson
Sandy Denny
Laurie Anderson
Frank Zappa
Hoven Droven
Esbjörn Svensson Trio
Led Zeppelin
Thomas Fersen
John Fahey
Henry Purcell

Best Album ever ... now you're having a laugh! How can I choose? If I have to, let's say
Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention

Five artists or songs that make me want to tear my hair out ...
I Want To Hold Your Hand - Sparks
The Locomotion - Kylie Minogue
Dancing Queen - Abba
Mariah Carey and anyone else that can't find the right note without trying all of them first
Max Bygraves

Oh dear! And I was counting on that one for our wedding march.... hehe. just kidding.

Actually, East, it's his body, he can share it with whomever he thinks fit. I'm not the owner of him... But I'd like to think that we have a relationship that's worth keeping.

I guess there's one album that's so good that I somehow subconsciously blocked it out of my mind COMPLETELY THIS WHOLE TIME BECAUSE IT'S TOO TERRIFYINGLY GOOD TO BE IN MY LIST WITH THE REST OF THE GOOD ALBUMS, WHAT AN ASSHOLE

A Love Supreme - John Coltrane

Seriously I get chills just thinking about listening to it

I wanted to be social and comment on people's lists but, apart from the popular artists listed, I know very few of you guys' faves Sad

I don't really go to concerts but out of the few ones I've gone to I'd say Emilie Autumn and the Bloody Crumpets make one hell of a show (the gig in question was in 2009...I think?)

As for artists, I can't list them either. I have simply too many favorites and they keep coming and going. And it's difficult to compare ones from differing genres o_o Let's do it this way: some excellent albums from each genre!

Industrial/EBM:

"Blood Death Ivory" by Angelspit
"Hearts for Bullets" by Ayria
"Opheliac" by Emilie Autumn
"Filth" by Pretty Addicted (the upcoming second album will put this one into shame, I'm sure...)
"The Downward Spiral" by Nine Inch Nails
"Harsh Generation" by Grendel
"'Til Death" by Aesthetic Perfection
"Nie und Immer" by S.I.N.A
"Cask Strength" by Imminent
"Two Headed Monster" by Collide

Synthpop/electropop:

"The Jade Motel" by Zeigeist
"Deep Cuts" by The Knife
"XII" by Parallels
"Take Cair Paramour" by Ashbury Heights
"GAME" by Perfume
"Feed Me Diamonds" by MNDR
"Joy-Toy" by Thermostatic
"Shadows" by The New Division
"The Colors in the Wheel" by Venus Hum

Shoegaze/Noisepop:

"Crush" by Astrobrite
"Loveless" by My Bloody Valentine
"Shot Forth Self Living" by Medicine ("The Buried Life" is basically as good...)
"Souvlaki" by Slowdive
"Interceptors" by Screen Vinyl Image

Rock/Metal:

"10,000 Days" by Tool (or "Lateralus" or "Ænima"...)
"Thirteenth Step" by A Perfect Circle
"Vol. 2" by HURT
"Amor Vincit Omnia" by Pure Reason Revolution
"Keep Telling Myself It's Alright" by ASHES dIVIDE
"OK Computer" by Radiohead

Misc:

"Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" by Amanda Palmer
"23" by Blonde Redhead
"Why Bother?" by ADULT.
"COUP D'ETAT" by G-DRAGON
"Fever Ray" by Fever Ray

ok, I'll stop now ._.

The best concert I have been to was by Metsatöll during Rabarock. They are not one of my favorite bands, but the show they gave was simply superb. When they played, they grinned like a bunch of wide-eyed idiots and were clearly enjoyed themselves. They let everything they had flow into the music. The audience responded accordingly and went completely wild. The stage effects were simple, but effective - like black figures standing against red fog or the burning of fire-crosses. Still have those impressions burned into my mind. Too often artists take their audiences for granted and that makes a boring concert, even if they perform technically well. My second favorite show was when one my favorite bands played at an event that wasn't advertised, so there were like 10 people in front of the stage. The band played like they were in front of a stadium and the 10 people attending went completely crazy. The band also gave away lots of free beer and sprayed us with foam and in the end they jumped of the stage to thank each of the audience members personally.

Picking 10 bands is hard and a bit random, but I'll go with:
Calibro 35
Truckfighters
Pienvedēja Piedzīvojumi
Pērkons
Eagles of Death Metal
Trombone Shorty
Noisettes
The Big 3
Patti Smith
The Stooges

Can't answer about best album ever, there are too many to pick from.

Five annoying artists:
McFly
One Direction
Dieter Bohlen(Modern talking and co.)
50 Cent
R. Kelly
