I told him already I'm no interested in long relationships, however he says everyone wants someone next to them. I guess I'm different.

Unfortunately I don't have anyone in my friends that would look for serious relationships.

It would seem then that if you truly like him as a friend that you need to distance yourself from him so that he can find someone who wants the same type of relationship that he does.

I have been in both yours and his position and I don't envy either of you. It can be very frustrating.
