I'm so confused. How does stripping down to your underwear celebrate being gay?? I can't for the life of me figure this out.

And why does wearing clothes mean that someone is ashamed of their body? To me, it's a decoration of my body.

How is wearing underwear to Pride part of the "solution" to the bad rap of homosexuality?

I honestly think you should do what you feel you want to do. But keep an open mind and try to understand those of us with a different opinion instead of saying we are "part of the problem". You are the one that asked "but is underwear only a little too much ???" so we are just trying to give our heartfelt opinion. I think most of us agree that you should do what makes you happy.

^^^I never go to pride because I HATE parades...any parade.....and I also used to have to work at them in the booth for the bar and I wasn't having any fun......

...and there were stages I went through where I had criticisms but they all disappeared over the years.

I finally decided that freedom of expression is cool...but I am not going...the traffic alone...EEK!

If this was an ideal world then all of that equality and tolerance and acceptance would exist.

This is not an ideal world.

Hate is irrational and no amount of logic you throw at it is going to change it.

Perhaps as a product of a time and era when gays were literally being beaten by groups of thugs with baseball bats I am just more keenly aware that how I conduct myself as a gay man in the public forum has an impact on how the haters are going to react. IDK, maybe stumbling across the broken, bloody body of a guy who was beaten by a gang of thugs and who eventually died a few hours later left some minor impact on me.

However I conduct myself in as polite and civil a manner as possible, not because I personally fear being beaten to death (I would actually welcome death's sweet release). Its because I have this dread that I might actually spark some idiot to do some horrific thing on an innocent person who does not deserve such a fate.

Yes I know, in Canada the war is over, Gays got their rights, everyone is happy.

Its not like that around the globe. Russia has their anti-propaganda laws which forbid advertisement of homosexuality to protect their children. Too many other nations have legalized killing gays for their homosexuality.

And when it comes time for them to push their laws all they need to do is pull up the images from our own news media that proves that gays are less than and are actually out to subject the innocent children to our perversion.

Your 'right' has consequences and helps to form such hatred and keeps it burning. Sure you personally may never be the victim of a baseball bat, but its a reasonable bet that your actions will impact others in some manner and lead to some innocent person being beaten, bullied, hated upon, perhaps even murdered.

Go search out the forums where open gay hostile is allowed. Read their words, read their special brand of logic (understand it ain't really logical). you will see the connections that they make in their heads and I'm sorry if that stamps on your perceptions that you have some right to do/be whatever and that that trumps the right of others to have a reasonably safe life.

The facade we present as LGBT affects how others perceive LGBT and it leads directly to many interesting results:

They hate our gay parades. They hate the images of barely dressed youthful bodies that have rainbows around them. It sparks more hatred and more bashing each June when we in the LGBT community start partying.

Every single hater will point to gay pride June and use it to justify their hatred. It is proof in their mind that our intent is pure evil, and that we are all just scum of the earth perverts seeking to destroy the world and guide their children to hell via lust.

When gay guys come together to party we like to impress one another with how hot we are. That can be achieved by showing lots of skin and wearing skimpy outfits. Doing this in public in a parade is announcing to the world: yes I'm gay, yes, I like to be admired for my body. That openness shows you're not afraid of the haters, not afraid of being judged and secure in your knowledge that our allies understand.
I'm not saying this is the only way to celebrate pride, far from it, but a legitimate way most definitely. I'm also not advocating for sexual displays in public, on parade, that should be kept private.

Being gay is not for Sissies.

Honey, you just have a good time and dress however makes you feel best about you!
Don't be bothered by anyone's comments either, from many of the comments I am pretty sure that they would be yelling at you to get off their lawn wether your wearing your undies or a parka....
