What is your role?
#41
Maybe I should include that in real life I aspire to be True Neutral, though I seem to have been born Chaotic Good. I do seem very close to Neutral Good now, and not quite as Good as I used to be, so I'm making progress!

Still, a more extreme alignment tends to be more fun to play and typically provides a more compelling reason to go on adventures...but True Neutral could be more fun (and compelled to become involved) under the right circumstances, especially if that sometimes meant playing sides off against each while trying not to be crushed in between them (that is, more a game of intrigue than action, or if the entire party leans neutral the same way then a mix of both).

I've played through most of the class types during my years playing RPG's, but to match one to my own personality I'd probably choose a Druid and be Neutral Good, and probably be Elven or Half Elven. I have a strong affinity to nature and preservation/conservation and I'd be prepared to pummel anyone over the head with my Quarter Staff who defiles my sacred groves!

I was sorting through a closet and came up my old Dragon magazines, and flipping through a few I thought I'd share this bit that made me laugh from April 2006 (issue 342), an article as told from the perspective of a kobold on describing adventurers (to celebrate April Fool's):

Killing kobolds has always been an obsession for adventurers, or at least a really bad habit. Some days it seems a kobold can't place a piece of quartz on a stool without an adventurer slaughtering him, stealing the quartz, and setting fire to the stool. Nonetheless, the true reason that adventurers begin adventuring is not and never has been about kobolds. Adventurers go into dungeons for another reason entirely--and the reason isn't treasure, if that's what you're thinking...

...Adventurers go into dungeons for fun. To them, adventuring is a game, it is something they play.

I have divided adventurers into 3 distinct types based on their approach to fun. I call these groupings Gamist, Narrativist, and Simulationist. Every adventurer fits cleanly into one of these 3 categories without overlap.

Gamist

Gamist adventurers are the most deadly type of adventurer, as their every thought centers upon destruction and competition. If a gamist fails to kill more creatures in a battle than his companions, he will rip off his own head in humiliation and hurl it against a wall. Gamists are masters of the sword and bow, but are no less formidable when wielding improvised weapons, such as chains, table legs, or bags full of kittens. Unlike other adventurer types, gamists never speak.

Narrativist

Narrativist adventurers are the thinkers of their party and love antagonizing over what is right and wrong. Not surprisingly, narrativists are also the easiest to kill. The backpack of a typical narrativist contains a map, a journal, a memento from his dead parents, two or three worn books, a corsage from his junior prom, some letters from the family who raised him, a 30-pound tome of his true family's history, the last 22 issues of his favorite magazine, a pair of bronzed baby booties, a library card, receipts, and a miniature globe. Everything that happens to the party is recorded by the narratavist in his journal. The quickest way to kill a narrativist in battle is to distract him with a question about his background. He will usually stop attacking to explain his coat of arms or why he is wearing a carnation in his buttonhole.

Simulationist

Simulationist adventurers are prepared for anything and never carry less than 200 pounds of gear (not counting armor & weapons). A typical simulationist carries a 10-foot aluminum pole, a comb, a mirror, wolfsbane, garlic, a pound of salt, 400 feet of knotted rope, a bedroll, flannel pajamas, a 15-foot pole, and 7 and half foot pole, a favorite pillow, two carrier pigeons, breath mints, a padlock, a first aid kit, a second aid kit, a laminated card naming several people to contact in the event of an emergency, a dog whistle, a pornographic drawing of an elf maiden, and so forth. Simulationists, being more curious than gamists or narrativists, can sometimes be lured into traps, ambushes, and small obvious cages. For reasons unknown, all simulationists have difficulty speaking in a normal fashion. Instead of saying, "I see a chest," for example, they might say, "Verily, a chest!" or "Arrr, there be a chest, says I."

[Big snip]

...Consider the adventurer's diet. One might assume each adventurer consumes 900 pounds of raw flesh everyday based on the number of creatures they kill, but this is not the case. Adventurers only eat dessicated rations, which they bring with them. I know this sounds implausible, but trust me, an adventurer has never set foot in a dungeon in search of moist delicious food. My mother has had her kitchen ransacked by adventurers no fewer than 11 times and not once did they force her to make sandwiches....

[snip]

The chief once asked me what kobold warriors can do to counter the tactics of adventurers. All I could come up with was, "Kill themselves to deprive the adventurers the pleasure." Lucky for me his royal pompousness thought I was joking.

This article has more, including New Kobold Feats (to be used with 3rd ed), such as:

ELF
Better to die an elf than as a kobold.
Prerequisite: Kobold
Benefit: Upon selecting this feat the kobold spontaneously polymorphs into an elf and is immediately killed by nearby kobolds. This feat can only be selected by mistake.

Maybe later I'll see if I can find that other April issue on peasant feats...

And by happy coincidence (as it seems to fit with the article), I found comics in Issue 290, all the way back from 2001, opened to the following comic (and had more within)....

Phil: Okay campers, today we're talking about scoundrels!
Dixie: Hold ON. You're talking about a world where HEROES topple governments, slay thousands, loot temples, and fence stolen goods. Define scoundrel.

x

Nodwick the henchman (with friendly kobold he saved and introducing to his abusive party): Ah! There you guys are! I'd like you to meet...

Cleric: A kobold has Nodwick! We've got to save him!

Nodwick: WHOA! WAIT! He's not going to hurt anybody!

Wizard: The BEAST has BRAINWASHED our henchman! This INJUSTICE WILL NOT STAND!

Nodwick (running with kobold over his shoulder): He's not a beast! He's an ECONOMIST!

Fighter (with sword raised chasing them): PREPARE TO--

Kobold: I can increase the value of your loot by TWENTY PERCENT!

Fighter: Really?

LATER...

Kobold: ...So by leaving all of the gold pieces behind you avoid devaluing the local currency, thus making the return of the artifacts, jewelry, and gems go up substantially!

Wizard (to Nodwick): You say he does tax forms, too?

x

(From Zogonia, taking place in a tavern, the only 2 men alive)

"I see at least twenty corpses in this bar...and YOU. You must be a great warrior."

"Mmmmm..."

"My name is Domato, leader of Domato's Delvers. I am looking for a warrior to join in my party of adventurers. We specialize in dungeon exploration and short-term quests."

"Sounds like fun."

"GOOD!"

"GOOD!"

"Uh...you killed all these people in self-defense, right?"

"That sounds plausible."

Have never played those games, have stopped playing RPG for 2 years now.

I am always under the impression that all spell caster classes are weak, don't scale well with items. Most of them are rediculous powerful early game and nothing late game.

Just take a look at DotA 2, most spell casters don't get much farm (earning money) in competitive games.

In Diablo 2 hell mode, lots of monsters with 100% immune to fire, cold, and lightning. Even my socceress specializes in two skill trees, I still find it hard to go pass act II. On the other hand, I could go much farther with the archer than with the socceress.

I prefer classes that fight like a "sissy" Roflmao, but I would also lean more forward to classes that use mainly magic. That means wizard/soccerer are my favorite.

Have you ever played Rakion. That game was very fun. My first favorite was the dwarf mage, and later the ninja became my #1 ever since (fight liker a "sissy" Grlaugh, very annoying, hard to get killed). Though the game now is a complete rubbish with all the summonings, item effects (like freeze, fear).

Nope. Never played Rakion. If you play Skyrim, you can install mod, like female animation, but you create a male character. I had it once and lol [emoji13]
