The Churches of Las Vegas
#1
I DID NOT KNOW THIS ABOUT LAS VEGAS

Do Las Vegas Churches accept gambling chips?

This may come as a surprise to those of you not living in Las Vegas but there are more Catholic churches than casinos.

Not surprisingly, some worshipers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed.

Since they get chips from many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings.

The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in.

This is done by the chip monks.

You didn't even see it coming did you?

Chip monks... Very bad pun - and to a degree even an insult. Whilst Monks and Friars don't have all out warfare going on, there are major disagreements about Service to God.

Friars are not monks. Monks live in monasteries in seclusion, friars are part of the community. You see a man in a robe walking down the street he is most likely a friar out on 'missionary' work - which is to say conducting some sort of charity work. You see a brother working a soupline, that is a friar - a monk would never leave the seclusion of the monastery to do 'good works'.

Friars live in friaries, monks live in monasteries (monkey houses).
Traditionally monasteries are secluded communities (communes) which are self sufficient (like raise their own food, do crafts to sell for money to support the monastery). Friars live in street houses and rely on charitable donations, whilst conducting social service to the community.

Some, not all, monasteries will take on good works inside of their monastery, thus starting schools where the pupils come to them.

There are several friaries of several communities in Nevada. Back in my time the St Francis Friars had a house outside of Las Vegas. I lived there a few years.

The mindset of having that many churches and friaries in the City of Sin is that they go where they are needed.

While its true that some people do in fact use chips when the basket is passed (both protestant and catholic), each church handles the exchange of the chips for currency, there is no centralized chip-monk processing of chips.

Lastly, this story you are passing off as fact is a lie.

Deems it false.

You personally have nothing to fear, go ahead post any religious joke you want to, I happen to like you and the majority of others here. Some people I can't exactly say that about.
