How to counter this argument. need opinions
#21
I am not sure why you would even waste your time. These people have made up their minds using arguments without reason and that do not make sense and so using reason and sense is not going to persuade them. It is not to say you cannot change minds. Most people out there that are against lgbt people have never really put any thought into why they feel that way and those people can be persuaded to see things differently, but that is not these people. The people that make these ridiculous arguments, that ones that share their opinions often in conversation and fill forums and news groups with their hateful comments, operate on being miserable haters. They've lived their lives that way and will most likely go tot heir death bed that way. Because they are so vocal, it can be easy to think that is how all the people against homosexuality and equality are, but that is not the case. We just don't hear from those other people because it is not that big of deal to them to make a big stink about it. There is a way you can reach these other people and it is not by having discussions with them about homosexuality, it is simply by living openly and being a good and respectful person, letting them know we're not that much different then them. The lgbt organizations and groups have not a remarkable job bring change that benefits us, but it has been shown that one of the biggest reasons for a changes in attitude have come from more gays and lesbians being out and so more people now know a gay or lesbian person. You do have something you can do with these hateful people and that is to not make them a part of your lives. Sure, you sometimes have to deal with them at work, or in a class, or sometimes have to deal with a hateful, old uncle at a family functions. There's no way around having to sometimes deal with these people, but you can choose to not make them a part of your larger social life the people that are really the important ones in your life.

some here argued that pedophiles are born that way and that that's a parallel with homosexual rights. it is not. it's not even a parallel with heterosexual rights. the key is exactly the consensual aspect. homosexual intercourse that is not consensual is rape. heterosexual intercourse that is not consensual is rape. every sexual intercourse with a kid is non-consensual, ergo every intercourse with a kid is rape. nobody is advocating for legal rights for raping people. it is nonsensical to pull out the pedophile card here. it is in fact such a simple logic behind this that i don't even understand how some people think it has any legitimacy at all.
