And now for a duet: The Serbami ognor from Rossini's Semiramide, with Marilyn Horne and Monserrat Caballe (9 min)

(pick it up at 3:48 to start the coloratura fireworks)

(I was lucky enough to their Semiramide twice in performance)

I did, however, enjoy the soundtrack of Woody Allen's Match Point, composed entirely of opera themes. Allen's film is a modern adaptation of a greek tragedy and the opera music was a brilliant touch.

Being gay has nothing to do with liking Opera or not. I liked opera since I was a kid and I wasn't considered gay back then.

I've already mentioned this lady on GS and I love her:

Natália de Andrade, Portugal's greatest opera diva.

There are many performances in the opera world similar to the de Andrade one.

If you want to have real fun with opera, I refer you to the Australian, Anna Russell. Here she demonstrates how to write a Gilbert & Sullivan opera.

She also did a wonderful parody on the Ring Cycle.

Juast to prove that all opera doesn't have to be dreadfully serious, listen to this very short, one act opera by Menotti:

"You can be young without money but you can't be old without money"
Maggie the Cat from "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." by Tennessee Williams
