You can frequent the same bars and meet friendly people in the big city too, Virge :p

Yes, but now Virge has found his nest, why would he want to uproot his family and come to the big city?

I wasn't suggesting that. My story was to say that not all rural-ites are homophobic, and I was adding that not all city folk are unfriendly on the other side. Battling stereotypes and such Smile

That's not the appeal of small town life. I'm pretty sure I've met and know most of the names of all 1,500 people in town town limits. I don't know all the kids by name but know who they belong to. All of them know me too. Add to that at least another 50 living on base and another 150 outside town limits. All of us interact on personal levels volunteering and doing business with each other. At town hall we have bulletins boards outside the doors where we pay utility bills strictly for local volunteer needs. People really do that here. Our local American Legion has already covered the Xmas needs of all the needy families at our school and are working on helping other communities. Can you call your grocery store and get them deliver? Do the cops in your neighborhood pull over to chat when they see you out walking? Do people wave from their windows when you walk your dogs past?

See what I mean? It's nothing to do with stereoypes... I've not been here in this town quite 4 years and.... they think of me as family and I feel the same way about them... That doesn't happen in big cities....

Yeah, I guess now I can see how big cities are less friendly than small towns !

That would be nice. It's particularly sweet when it happens in a GOP-dominated state Smile

That "red state" label sure is s wide-ass-brush to use when you're dealing with real people instead of "them", isn't it?

I wasn't using it as a label. It's the reality of Texas politics, and these marriage bans are almost exclusively GOP-hatched/enforced. Hence why it's particularly sweet when they're forced to allow our relationships to be put on an equal level with theirs.

The problem with the TEXAS GOP is that they write discrimination blatantly and proudly into their party platform and since they are responsible for the red and proudly claim RED as their own..they can definitely be held accountable...fully....

I don't believe we will be able to actually have same sex marriage in Florida, this would just lift the same sex marriage ban preventing gay couples who were already married from receiving marriage benefits. I could be wrong on thi sthough so let me know if i am.

"Barring further legal opposition, same-sex couples could marry in Florida beginning Jan. 6."
