My favorite childhood book was Tommy the Trucker - so of course I wanted to be a long haul trucker. This was re-enforced by the Burlington Mills trucks I saw in the summer going by the vacation house,
Didn't happen.

At first I wanted to be an illustrator. Then I wanted to be a writer, still do. Then in 7th grade, I wanted to be a teacher. Then in High School a nuclear/chemical/civil engineer. And now back to being a teacher. Right now I think it would have been cool to have gone into chemistry or biology and study viruses or dna. I would have been good at that. Those were my favorite parts of science.

when i was a kid there were two things i remember steered me towards an occupation. one thing, i wanted to become a pilot. and second, i wanted to design houses. i cut up cardboard and paper and glued together my own ''houses'' when i was a kid. i loved it.
and, yes, these two things are still part of my life. i went to flight academy after high school and i was among the best there. i learned to fly a plane, but i quit my studies midway through and pissed off the entire faculty in the process. i just didn't see myself flying airlines or cargo or something like that for the rest of my life. flying is indescribable to do it. but for me, it was always the adrenaline, the rush, it was more an (NOT a hobby) exercise (physical, mental, and psychological). i didn't see myself committing the rest of my life to it. today i do gliding as much as i can. i don't want to completely lose touch with flying.
i've mentioned here somewhere that i lately went back to college to finish my studies. it's architecture i'm studying. so, i can't say i work as an architect just yet, but i am working my life in that direction. if anything going back has proven me, it's that, unlike flying, this is something i see myself committing to for the rest of my life. it is what i love, everything about it. i hope i don't fuck it up this time.
(@Jake, i am taking neuroscience on the side but it's not what i'm majoring in. i might have misled you a little there. sorry about that).
edit: i should also mention i went through a phase as a kid when i wanted to become a policeman (what the fuck was i thinking?). it was because of one particular film that i saw that sold me to the idea and i was quite obsessed about it for a while. luckily it didn't stick. i can't remember dwelling on the idea any further after i turned 13. although, had i gone into that, i'd probably be half way through reforming the police system and structure today.

My earliest career wish was to be the wonderful junk man who drove his horse and wagon through the alley behind our house. I was three or four and am still proud to have his name as one of my nicknames. Then it was a doctor and an organist and, at times, a teacher.
I refuse to say that I grew up, but I later became a camp counselor, a musician, an organ builder and for a livelihood, a purchasing agent. This has all lead to my current calling: to be a retired old fart.
I bid NO Trump!

I really wanted to be a garbage man. Mostly because they got to ride onthe back ofthe truck. I grew up in a neighborhood that had the same garbage men every pick up. When I was about nine they let me ride on the truck. I just rememberit beingvery smelly.
In my later youth, I wanted to be an entomologist. I absolutely am fascinated by bugs.

Those are called leaf footed bugs. Not sureif they stink when you smash them, butthe best guess I can make is that the humidity is high.

Interesting question, when I was a kid I also wanted to be an Illustrator - and I mostly wanted to work as a cartoon animator for Disney. As a kid I was a very multidisciplinary kid and I'm still am. I was writing, singing, dancing, playing instrument, drawing, doing martial arts and become a school owner, I wanted to keep on traveling and become a Missionary (not the position LOL) for third world countries, I even wanted to become a linguist.
And life happened, I dropped out of high school due to many family problem and yes I found it boring so I never got my GED and I really don't care about it I own three University degrees and a bunch of professional certifications.
I started with Business school and in the same time was doing my degree in sociology and later psychology. End up working in IT - go figure lol. Just like Virge I have quite a hard time keeping a job where I do not have any control. I don't like the promotional idea, I may literally have kissed asses but for a promotion, hell no.
Tired of being told I started my own counselling office in Project management for business startup, made enough money and bought an apartment building of 10 apartments and turned 5 of them into rentable space for artists and professionals. I co wrote a social-fiction documentaries and well the production house took the rights.
To make a long stories short I opened my own consultation firm in business management and I also own a private school for teaching French as a second language. And many other businesses that are in very different domains from one another. At 38 my resume has about 15 pages, I stopped planning ahead very early and went with my guts. And yes I do worth millions just it was indeed a lot of work.
In short now I do whatever the fuck I want, I can work as a therapist, sociologist, IT specialist, writer, producer, director etc. I go with what I feel. And I am still an illustrator, I have drawn Alex my favorite subject to draw as you guess of course lol.
