Old Superman
#1
Although the title looks like it could be, this is not a joke thread.

Just sharing this video of Ed Cook (aka "Old Superman") because it is highly inspirational, especially for those of us who are rolling on the downside of the hill.

just FYI, although I'm a long way from looking anything like Ed (and recently went through a months long set-back), I agree with him. Physical fitness isn't just about looking good; its about improving the whole matrix of your life (physical, mental and 'spiritual' for lack of any better word). AND, I think it becomes more important as you age. I dind't begin seriously working out until I was well over 60 and now I wish I'd started at least 10 years sooner.

Of course, the point isn't to become a competitive bodybuilder as Ed has. It's to do something for yourself -- both inside and out -- that can make a profound difference in your life.

So… if you're over 40 and finding your health and fitness declining, don't think it is too late to turn things around. It isn't. It isn't at 50 or even 60 or 65, either. BUT the longer you wait the more difficult it is and the more irreversible damage will have accumulated. This I've learned the hard way!

Oh, and BTW, Old Superman is gay and in a monogamous relationship.

I'm nearly to my average weight when I was 26 - that was 128 pounds.Rolleyes

Currently weigh in at 142 pounds (yesterday morning's weigh in). Mind I'm still 6'1" which puts me in the decidedly 'underweight' end of things.

The sad part of it, is back in my 20's I had lots of methamphetamine to help me keep my weight low.... Now I don't have to use drugs to keep myself slender and Calvin Klein pretty.

Why is that sad? I miss the drugs....

Tongue3 You, silly.

In my 20s it was mostly psychedelics. I tried crystal meth a few times, even MDA (which is way speedier than MDMA once you get past the sensory flash) but I was never a fan of uppers. They just made me paranoid and freaky. (You don't want to see me with a freak on, serious.) I seldom took non-prescribed over the counter drugs at all but when I did it was more likely to be barbies, reds, or ludes. Strangely, though, I'm not into alcohol at all and never have been. I can't stand the taste of beer and wine puts me to sleep. Occasionally I'll have a bourbon or scotch but its rare. My drug of choice is cannabis, the only down side (apparently having the opposite problem of you) being the munchies. Once every few years I'll do a stronger psychedelic but they make me so *extremely* sensitive on so many levels the experience is more excruciating than pleasurable.

I *do* enjoy the endorphin rush of working out hard, though. The testosterone boost is another added benefit. Smile

I was a speed freak in winter and alcoholic in summer. I have SAD, depressed in the winters hypo mania in the summers.... so all of that drug and alcohol stuff was largely more or less self medicating an underlying bi-polar like disorder.

I think I miss the scene more than the drink or the drugs... I miss raves, and the crazy wonderfully insane people I hung with back in those days.

Huh? What? What? I heard those folks in realjock that bodybuilding has lots of homophobia guys.

I have to admit, I go to the gym mainly for appearance. But I do enjoy the benefit it brings to my health too.
