This thread would seem more appropriate to the "suggestion thread" where it belongs. The tendency for an altercation to spread across threads is a problem on any forum. That said, it is here, so I am posting here.

The real problem seems to be that the site admin didn't answer your post with anything more than a cool demeanor that came off defensive or irritated, siding with your detractor who clearly had gotten the whole problem bassackwards when he repeatedly posted crap about how the age display even worked. Once the site admin took sides by posting a thanks with the other member, it made your suggestion indeed into the partisan division that LEANDRONJ had framed it to be. LEANDRONJ's posts surmised that anything posted against the site's status quo was basically the equal of ungratefulness to the site admin, which basically came off as sycophancy.

That you received an infraction is another topic, detailing another flaw with site design if it allows scraps with other posters to leave a mark that is not adjudicated. It is essentially an unpopularity rating when not governed.

My advice would be to kiss and make up. We don't wish to see anyone leave over a single infraction point.

A simple disagreement or difference of opinion certainly shouldn't be the basis of infractions.....but a pattern of disagreements that contravene the site code of conduct rules would.

In this case, I see two posters who held very emphatic positions that resulted in an inability to simply recognize that there was a difference of opinion and to walk away from the argument. It happens.

The issue was ultimately taken up by the site administrator, so there was a form of resolution. I'm sure that Andy fully appreciates that suggestions and criticism can be helpful in making the site more enjoyable and useful to all of us and is mature enough to look into how to address issues without feeling personally insulted. I'm sure though, that he also appreciates when members are sensitive to the programming challenges and time commitments that a site owner/administrator has to address to make even the simplest of changes.

The teachable moment here is that everyone should be very careful about assigning an infraction, making sure that there has been a contravention of the CoC....and just how easy it is to end up with hurt feelings on a forum where people aren't able to listen to one another...only read the comments that often have been quickly composed in pique and sent without reflection. Invariably this results in occasional miscommunication and ill feeling.

We all like having both of you here and would hope that this can be set aside and quickly forgotten.

Glad this all got resolved right quick. I read the (now closed) thread in question, and the infraction given was silly to begin with. Differences in opinion should be allowed to exist without knee-jerk infractions being given.
