Bronx Teacher & Students Build Green Walls, Roofs
#1
Stephen Ritz, a Bronx teacher whose students build hydroponic garden walls and green roofs says "I'm not here to accept the things I cannot change; I'm here to change the things I cannot accept!" His students earn a paycheck and gain marketable skills while helping transform an urban wasteland into a food-producing ecosystem that improves the quality of life for residents and conserves water.

I learned about him through some corporate training I was doing, and I was intrigued enough to want to learn more about their work... this is his web site www.greenbronxmachine.org

Thanks for posting that Shifty! I sent it to my Mom and local Rural America Initiatives that works with Lakota kids for education, mentoring and skills. I'll be volunteering again this winter to teach swimming to little kids if they need me.

Mom is real active in Teach for America which places teachers in the rural areas. I know she'd be interested in promoting this idea.
