Is Astrology True?

East Wrote:I have no problem at all respecting beliefs that do not interfere with anyone else's lives.....

I do keep my spiritual beliefs to myself though. I am pagan and, for example, in suicide threads...I would have to use my spiritual beliefs in order to give advice....so I don't say anything.....

They give me a lot of personal comfort and strength and insight and frankly it is no one else's business really...spirituality is intensely personal anyway and since it has no effect on anyone else what I believe or don't believe it really shouldn't matter...eh?

I think the respect is a mutual thing so in order to be respected you have to give respect....

I think the OP is very respectful....

Also...it is impossible to defend beliefs...because they are beliefs. They are true for the person who believes them or feels them ...now if certain select Christians and Muslims could just learn this and stop trying to ram it down everyone's throats...and stop trying to legislate it or "prove" it to anyone else..we would have a much nicer world to live in.
I agree.
That's why I stopped defending.
I do have an issue with that (regarding other non-spiritual beliefs).
I'm very easily insecure and hurt, I know it's not personal,
but it hurts, because I opened up.
Not trying to look for mercy. Just calling it a day.

nobody disrespected you (the OP). i don't even know you. i don't know if you deserve any respect or not. i disrespected your religion (which astrology is), and showed contempt towards it. you were the one to interpret it as a personal insult against you.

i have a friend who thinks paranormal phenomena are real, and that UFOs visit this planet. i find believing those things ridiculous but i respect him as a person. he's a great guy, and still my friend.

respect has to be earned.
just because someone is born and believes something doesn't automatically grant them respect. i have respect for science because it has achieved flight, satellites, it has put a man on the Moon, it has gotten data on distant galaxies and planets, it has developed film technology, musical reproduction, new building materials, cures and relief for a huge number of medical conditions that would otherwise severely degrade the quality of life for many people, science has SAVED LIVES...and these are just SOME of the examples. what has astrology achieved?

this said, i have nothing against a person believing it if they want. that's their freedom and i support that freedom as long as they don't try to interfere with other people's lives with their religion (like christianity and islam have done). sadly, that's rarely the case.

I understand. But I must be open and say that I did got offended by you.
I know it's not personal, but I shared something personal and I know this is the price you pay for putting yourself out there.
I don't see Astrology has religion as well, I don't follow any religion.
I have my own unique set of beliefs that I got from here and there.
It does hurt however, when people call someone who believe in Astrology "stupid".
There are in fact, things, that you don't know about Astrology and that's fine!
But I'll tell you that there's a lot of knowledge in there, back in centuries.
Even myths, can be researched. That was my point basically.

I am sorry that you got hurt....I learned already not to put certain topics up (not just here or anywhere in particular....just in general)....Knuddel

Just so you aren't alone...I will stand with you and say something that always makes people think I am crazy or "out there" ...

ready?.....here goes....

I actually think there are lizard like things living inside of a lot of human beings....nothing will convince me otherwise. I won't elaborate...I know what will happen if I do ItschyRoflRofl

...and even if I did...NO ONE IS GOING TO BELIEVE ME...and they might want to lock me upPeepwall...

I do tell people in my 3-D world about it every once in awhile...even my therapist. I thought she was gonna tell me I was schizophrenic but instead she told me about the Ancient Cultures and the drawings in the caves and that I probably saw the same thing they saw.....

Imagine that!

...and that was before Cable TV so it wasn't like she watched it on TV the night before and threw it out there to placate me Biglaugh

If you can do it...find the humor in it and laugh along with them....doesn't mean you have to agree with them....

...I think you are a sweetheart actually (I don't know about meBiglaugh )...and there is nothing wrong with being sensitive....

Just remember...if you feel it then be true to yourself and don't let anyone make you feel like you are less than they are because you don't think like they do. Sometimes critics are good for people who are sensitive because they can help toughen us up and make us stronger....seriously.....

this sums it up:
wikipedia Wrote:A religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence

doesn't matter whether you believe in god of some organized religion, of some tribal cult, or that UFO abductions are real, that ghosts exist, or that the alignment of the stars at the moment of your birth defines your personal characteristics. it's all the same thing. religion.

also, saying that it's a 'belief' and that science shouldn't be used to defend or criticize it -- when you make claims like the one about a star sign affecting a person's qualities, something that has a clear manifestation in the real physical world, then that IS the field for science to deal with, not some voodoo magic. if you claim the Sun's position at the moment of birth affects a person then you better back it up with proof. you don't get away with just calling it a 'belief', and then asking others to respect that.

I have my personal experience with Astrology has a proof.
It's my personal proof. That can only be applied to me.
I'm not trying to convince you, in fact, I said I stopped and agreed there's no point.
However, from some reason you insist on telling me how do I need to define that belief,
by quoting Wikipedia.
Why do you keep doing it after I stopped?
No matter how hard you'll try, you won't convince me that Astrology is a religion.
Why? Because there's no temple. There's no God of Astrology. There's no priest and no authority.
Astrology contains also you own unique intuition and subjective perception, unlike most major religions who condemn you from thinking otherwise.
Astrology for me is a tool. I'll always define it as a tool. So you can quote Wikipedia, you can quote anthropologists and you can quote who ever you want.
I define my own life, identity and beliefs. You define your own.
I'll not intervene with that.

wikipedia just worded it better than i could. that's why i quoted it.

astrology is a religion. and i'm not the only one to have said so to you. just because it doesn't have a temple doesn't mean it's not. it just means practitioners of astrology do not have enough money to build temples. and they do have their ''shrines'' where people will ''read'' other people, or whatever it's called.

you can deny it being a religion, and that's your thing. doesn't change the facts.
