Chinese Food
#31
East Wrote:So...let me ask...do you like spicy food? zucchini? ......You might like Szechuan style if bland is the problem though I never really have anything bland at the Chinese Restaurants......the opposite for me actually...

i do like spicy food. the problem with Chinese spicy is that they tend to use spicy and sweet simultaneously a lot, and i don't like that. spicy and salty together, that's how i like my spicy food.

aaand, i don't know if i've ever actually had zucchini. i know what it looks like, but i don't know that i've ever eaten it. at least i can't identify the taste.

i love bell pepper, olives, avocados, cheese...

I thought of one you might like that is usually widely available (or course...I would wait for an authentic Chinese Restaurant to try this).....

Sichuan Kung Pao Chicken...

I LOVE zucchini in mine...it is a type of squash that can double as a dildo LOL.... and also depends on the chef what kind of chilis they use...and sometimes peppers and peanuts....definitely spicy and salty vs sweet.....

The sweet meet thing I don't really consider Chinese cuisine...it reminds me of crappy fast food...

...but they have to pay the bills I guess so alot of them do mostly that....I don't go to those places....

I have been trying the Mongolian BBQ a little lately where you pick out the fresh and raw ingredients and bring them to the chef...but I find that bland usually and haven't figured out what spices to bring him yet....

EDIT: I was thinking about what you wrote (re:cheese)...and I can't think of any Chinese dishes with any cheese except for the mussels my BF orders sometimes..I think there is some kind of cheese on those...also can't think of any olives in use.....

,,,and the avocado? Not that I am aware of...they use avocado with sushi a lot but that is Japanese....and also Mexican cuisine has a lot of avocado. I like to eat avocado plain like a dessert with a spoon...or I like a spicy avocado sauce freshly made...

thanks East. i'll keep those things in mind. when i come upon a genuine Chinese restaurant i'll definitely try that.

i just mentioned olives and avocados, because they're the tastes i highly enjoy. so maybe something similar could appeal to me.

oh, and i wanna give you a tip on avocados -- if you haven't tried this already, next time you're making pasta, use avocado oil. it changes everything!

I don't think I have ever seen avocado oil...does it come in a bottle like olive oil? I would definitely like to try it...I love the flavor of avocado...

Last summer I when I went to this Italian Restaurant where I noted the people eating on the sidewalk at the tables and the food looked so good...but I had no time to really relax or study the menu ....so I ordered spaghetti and meatballs figuring it would be a good energy producer....

...and I was actually blown away by how good it was. The noodles were fresh made to order but that was nothing new...it was the sauce...for the sauce it was mostly just basil and olive oil and then what looked like heirloom tomaotes kinda crushed up a little bit on top ...and I don't know that they did to the meatballs ...I don't usually like beef...but they were excellent as well. I have recreated that a couple times now (not the meatball part) and though it isn't as good as theirs...it is much better than what I used to do. I am thinking avocado oil might be a great addition...I will try it if I can find it.

this is my favorite:

amazon has it:

Mira Avocado Oil

but i also use this, which is pretty much the same in quality, just a bit cheaper in Europe:

the US retailers are listed on their homepage:

it comes in a dark glass bottle, and should be kept out of light. Extra Virgin avocado oil is the highest standard, followed by Virgin, and then followed by Pure. it's very similar to olive oil in some respects, but the taste is something else. if you can get your hands on it i highly recommend it. it was something of a revolution for me, totally changed the way i serve some things.

IDK how we got onto Italian food but I love a particular brand of imported bufala mozzarella (Garofalo) and--since Costco stopped carrying it--I can't find it.

I love Chinese food....and even the aforementioned (and loathed) buffets. It's almost a challenge - "find the really tasty stuff among all of this". It may take a while, but I usually can.

My favorites? Hard to say. I like rice noodles, and sesame chicken (or "candy chicken" as my friend calls it). I make a pretty decent fried rice, too.

I prefer Korean and Japanese, but there are some Chinese dishes I really like.

Jellyfish noodles are awesome...

Shrimp or beef chow fun...

Sichuan green beans...

And a more Americanized bit of goodstuff,
Almond chicken

Thanks meridan...I was gonna buy it on Amazon but they are sold out so I checked the location in the US and I have a shop within walking distance that sells it...so I will let you know how I like it. I think I will use it on the spaghetti I make next time...and maybe as dipping oil for bread the same as I use olive oil for sometimes...I read that part on the reviews.

Wow Twist...thanks for the reminder about Korean Food...I can't remember if I have ever been to a Korean Restaurant now...I don't even think I know where one is...so I will find one and check it out.

I had a Korean Boss who became a friend as well once and she used to make the crew some great lunches..she didn't have to do it but she loved to cook and have us taste stuff and it was all delicious...and when I had my Christmas Party one year she brought these killer spring rolls and sauce...OMG they were so good....I asked her to teach me to make them and she tried one day...LOL...I sucked at it
