i've sometimes pointed it out to such public establishments where i've come across erroneous usage of English that they got it wrong, but they always refuse to correct it, or think they know better.

I have few examples like this in French that I saw in Sweden
It's very nice to try to put some French to seem more typical, "chic", distinguished or whatever…

…but "party, friends and…balls" is pretty much…not distinguished.

Once in English language class, we were talking about paintings and stuff, so my professor asked a classmate what she thought of Van Gogh's works. She, who obviously wasn't very fluent in English, among other things said : "the painting doesn't like me".
I was imagining Van Gogh's look on his face in his self portrait and laughing about it. He clearly doesn't like her very much!
