LOOKING on HBO
#91
East Wrote:Hmmmm...

Continuing with things I can relate to ...uniquely as it is coming from a gay series and two men....

The "moving in" thing....and the immediate compromises...all too familiar...but you never get to see two gay men doing it. The party and the grindr profile thing....depressing....glad I get to skip that part of life. I did enjoy gay parties...would NOT enjoy grindr. I wouldn't really want to move in with someone who was on grindr.

Um...Patrick...DUH...of course he hooked up with other people when he was with his ex...he hooked up with you...didn't he? ...and yeah..OF COURSE he will do the same thing to you. It wasn't about his ex...it was about who HE is...

I definitely agree with Kevin about being honest and not knowing what will happen...I agree with him....BUT.....

....but he is NOT honest...it is a footnote....if he really values honesty he would have been honest all along. His proposal doesn't really matter AFTER the deception...he would have had to present himself like that upfront...

The "you just need to trust me" schtick from Kevin to Patrick...uh...again...depressing. Patrick already knows he can't trust Kevin....

The buzz cut request...trying to run away from yourself...never works...though I love a buzz cut...it doesn't change anything that matters

I LOVE Malik...he is not used enough on the series IMO....he reminds me a lot of one of my best friends.

Doris and Dom...great conversation...and I like him again....he owned it...I easily forgive anyone who owns their shit....

Damnit..I am starting to fall in love with this series. I hope they will get another season. It is still up in the air.....

This could have served as a season...or a series...finale....I was paying attention...
Please, East, warn me again about spoilers.... haven't watched this episode yet... (is it available?)
Anyway, yeah, we'll see. I agree, Malik : interesting but he's straight so...

Haha, @East, thanks, I didn't have to read this, knowing it might contain spoilers. Actually it was an interesting episode. I really thought we would see them all come to the unveiling of the mural, but nothing like that happened.
Ok so they seem to be taking the Pat-Kev couple down the incompatible way (which, of course happens) but it seems that Patrick is being rather unrealistic. They are both in their thirties and he's still expecting a Prince Charming experience to happen? WTF.
Now the question is, do we believe that Kevin can change his spots? It would be unfair to think that he can't. It may take a man a while to settle, and to feel that he's finally met his significant other. What happened to the old saying of kissing a lot of toads (even living with some) before meeting your Prince Charming? So maybe Kevin isn't the most stable of people, but why on earth did Patrick expect (from the start) that their relationship would be about monogamy, knowing what he knew about Kevin's past life ? (He didn't know not much, I agree)... The conversations sounded frank, whether we believed them or not... We'll see where they take this. Russell is an amazing actor with his puppy eyes, you would almost get taken in.

LOL...with Tovay...I never trust guys who are intentionally trying to be charming....for a relationship anyway.....

The charm often worked on me when I was in the nightclub...but I would just take them under my wing and watch out for them...because someone had to.,..and I am "someone" LOL...

I am not above being charmed...wish I was. So many of them wrapped me around their finger and made me "love" them..platonically,,,but still...

Watched Looking/S2-E10 last night (I always have to watch them a day late. I don't have that channel so I download the episode the following day). Was that the last episode for season 2? It sure "felt" like it. Here is my take....

Patrick: Yeah, hard to believe he was "surprised" by what Kevin told him. However, I think Patrick was "caught up in the moment" of the whole thing, and he was letting his emotions, rather than his brain, do the thinking. Love (or infatuation) will skew things, but now I think the conversation they had finally put it out there in the open, and the long term "fantasy" may not be all he thought it was going to be.

Kevin: I give him credit for at least being honest "this time around" with Patrick, and letting him know up front what he can expect. When he though he was loosing Patrick, he offered to "change his ways", but I think that would be very difficult for him to actually accomplish... and stick to for the long haul.

Augustin: we barely saw or heard from him in this last installment. I was hoping to see the mural, but actually I'm glad they didn't try to "squeeze" it in, as I hope the next episode his accomplishment (and his new attitude) will have more air time. His character has really morphed into something completely different.

Dom & Doris: Really glad Dom admitted he was a total ass and apologized. I think he could have emphasized he was sorry even a more, lol, but Doris got it and accepted it. It was nice to see him realize how selfish he'd been in the past; and it was difficult for him telling her they "needed" to put their friendship on the back burner so she could put her relationship first, where it belongs. That was the mark of a true friend, putting the needs/wants of the one you care about above your own.

Ritchie: I was glad to see him included in this episode, it was a nice ending leaving a lot of lingering thoughts just hanging out there. The necklace symbolically brought Ritchie to the forefront with Patrick, and I think deep down he knows that Ritchie and him have similar core values... which now Patrick is focused on, and seeing/yearning for. A couple of episodes back, I think it was also obvious that Richie still has feelings for Patrick, so "eventually" I have to think they will get back together (or at least I hope so, lol).

Not sure how the "ratings" have been for this show, but it's progressively gotten better and better with each episode. I hope it gets renewed for another season, it would be a shame if it didn't.

Thank you, @Maverick, nice take.

You have to remember that the series is called LOOKING (and it's not LOOKING AT, but maybe looking FOR, possible LOOKING after...) but I think they are all basically still LOOKING showing how transient life can be, maybe even more so for gays... Therefore they can leave the series as that, still looking, or carry on with another season. There's plenty of material to go with, and some loose ends to tie up, if they ever get tied up... life has this tendency to be extremely messy....

And it's cancelled. There will be a special to wrap things up, but I'm sad the show will not continue on. Even with the season finale I'm still rooting for Kevin and Patrick to work things out.

Yeah...no more LOOKING...it got the two season boot on HBO but at least they gave it a fair shot....

Other shows on HBO that pissed me off when they got cancelled after two seasons...

CARNIVALE (I will never forgive them for that one)
ROME

I didn't like LOOKING as much as CARNIVALE or ROME...but it was starting to grow on me and frankly...I am happy with any show that centers around gay men (except for the horrible Will and Grace...HATED THAT SHOW)

So...I need my gay man fix...I heard there was another show about Cucumbers or Tofu or something like that...anyone?....

I will await the LOOKING Movie..it could be great...fingers crossed....
