We built a similar type of structure on the top of our hills years ago to see how much water we could collect from fog and dew. I'm pleased to see that this is now becoming more widespread through regions that suffer from lack of potable water.

I think a similar idea was first used in the deserts of Peru where "netting" was strung out on the top of hills and the resulting night dew was collected. The Warka water towers are a variation on the same theme.
