it has everything to do with your own genetics and biology. some people are predisposed to obesity and heart problems, something that drinking soda regularly will probably aggravate. other people barely feel any effect at all.

Good read, but I wish they would have talked about diet soda as well. I am addicted to diet soda. I drink a 2 liter a day.

In high school we had a lab on soda. The lab showed a lot of regular soda made people diabetics. Diet soda could give you cancer.

Actually the carbonation can be a problem, since it's soda it's actually SALT based... sodium. It is not recommended if you're feeling bloated, for instance.

I do to. I have a SodaStream hooked up to a commercial Co2 tank so I always make my own, and they're all sweetened with sucralose.

My conspiracy theory and opinion is that when it was made in the old days with pure cane sugar it was somehow less fattening than now that's made with corn syrup. There's a ton more (no pun) obesity now with corn syrup in everything than there was in the past when we ate sugar, lard, fat, ... in everything.

There may be some other factors, too, Borg.

I can remember that soda pop was more of a treat and much less of a regular beverage when I was a kid, at least for a lot of folks. While my grandmother made (damned fine!) pie crust with lard, the people who ate it did a lot more physical work, even walking in a small town instead of driving. Interesting articles lately that inactivity is a disease in the sight of some doctors. Hard to disagree with that.

I discovered that drinking diet caffeine free coke was throwing me into more seizures. Came to find out that a lot of people report neurological issues with that nutra-sweet crap that they put in everything now days.

I drink soda rarely myself. I had two root beers today, one for my lunch and then one for supper. Mind supper out wasn't planned earlier in the day. This was an unusual day. We bough a 12 pack of rootbeer nearly three weeks ago and there is 5 or 6 left.

My poison of choice is coffee. Lots and lots and lots of coffee. Typically without sugar or anything except more coffee. Lately I discovered Coffee Syrup.... I'm currently looking for IV bag and needles so I can mainline me some serious coffee.

I agree. And it seems they really do sneak HFCS into everything these days. I recently read the ingredients on a box of stuffing mix and there was even some in that.

I think portion sizes have a lot to do with pop being so problematic, as well. I worked at a fast-food place 25 years ago. Their "large" back then is their "small" of today. I've known people who think of 40 or more ounces of the stuff as one serving.
