Actually Londoner, you are close to the mark. Theater is not always a matter of make believe. There is a a strain of development in Western theater that stems from mystery plays once performed on the steps of churches. There are certainly theatrical rhythms involved in the Mass and they bear witness to the fact that our culture is more integrated than we may realize.
As for the involvement of religion and entertainment (or stylized warfare if you please), please note the attendance numbers at a football game between the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA and any other team, not to mention bingo, bazaars and bake sales.
