Masculine Men, or Effeminate Men???

I know...me too...and where the f*ck did they come from????? Seriously???? I worked in a gay bar for 20 years FULL TIME and I talked with tens of thousands of gay men one on one...and I heard it all....plus things you couldn't imagine.,...

...and then I was in tons of groups conversations with gay men....and not once did I hear anyone ragging on bisexuals.....no one ever brought it up that I can remember

It has got to be a new thing....

For the life of me I can't understand what the controversy is???...

I have, but I think it's one of those issues based on fear (or hurt). ie.... either 1) someone dated a bi guy and was broke up with for a girl and/or 2) they're scared of that happening.

I've even known some of the MOST promiscuous gay men I've ever met accuse Bi's of being more promiscuous and unable to commit. Ridiculous, but there it is.

personally both have their own charm. I think i tend to be more masculine and prefer more feminine guys but not at all flamboyant. once they act super girly its a major turn off.

I am mostly attracted to masculine men, but there are many feminine men I have been attracted to. A couple weeks ago I saw a couple in the coffee shop and both were very feminine and were also one of the hottest couples I've ever seen.

To be blunt, this new generation are all pretty nelly, even the so called 'straight ones'.

Masculinity, the concept and definition has changed a lot over the past several decades. In the twentieth century masculinity went from a bit of the poofster to hardline 'macho-man' and is swinging back to the other end.

Same holds true for femininity. And the ideals of beauty, it all changes from generation to generation.

So what is masculinity? Is it a look, is it a set of behaviors? Is is the amount of body hair and how thick a guy's beard grows?

Is it dominance? A Type A personality?

Can a masculine guy use facial scrub? Does a masculine guy have to be involved in sports and be mechanically inclined?

Where do we draw these lines and decide that X is Masculine, Y is not?

Define for me these terms and I may be able to answer. Understand that the definition is slippery and slides and is always undergoing change.

Yes, this was a frequent thread topic there. One other difference between here and there, this thread has not turned into an ugly, dramatic spectacle. On RJ it would have turned into a hateful dispute within a few posts.

....the others that people consider feminine...like DQ and flamboyant guys... are usually caricatures...and I don't consider them "feminine" in any way....

I feel like it's watching a male-perspective parody/imitation/burlesque of male ideas of female behavior than it is watching someone who actually seems like a woman. In a way it's almost faintly insulting to women... "here's what men who conceive of themselves as being feminine think you are like..." I'm sure most of my female friends would be pretty insulted if they thought of some of the over the top diva behavior in that light.
